Michael T. Orr

From the Dean of the Faculty and VP for Academic Affairs

I write to announce two administrative changes.

After consulting with the chairs of the Appointments and Tenure Committee and the Faculty Executive Committee, I have appointed Auden Thomas, managing director of academic programs, residencies, institutes and community programs, to serve as interim executive director of Special Programs, effective Aug. 27.

Mary Hoehn has been promoted to director of the Office of Sponsored Research, effective Aug. 15.

Skidmore News

Meg Estapa, assistant professor of geoscience, is on a joint mission with NASA and the National Science Foundation to go 3,300 feet below the surface of the ocean to explore the dimly lit home of phytoplankton, otherwise known as the twilight zone.

Why? Because phytoplankton play a key role in Earth’s climate by removing heat-trapping carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through photosynthesis.

Skidmore Spotlight

Emily Moorefield has joined Skidmore College as a senior administrative assistant in the president’s office. Moorefield will assist members of the Office of the President with correspondence, budget coordination and special projects.
