President’s Awards are presented each year to members of the Skidmore faculty, staff, and student body who have embraced the educational mission and cooperative spirit of the College. President Philip A. Glotzbach announced Student Awards for Naira Abdula ’20, Jesse Epstein ’19 and Desiree Sim ’19; Staff Awards for Natasha Bruce, assistant director for housing and operations, and Terri Kindl, academic administrative assistant, Department of Management and Business; a Faculty Award for Crystal Dea Moore, associate dean for diversity and faculty affairs; and a Team Award for Votemore to Doris Donelan ’19, Hannah Fishman ’19, and Max Fleischman ’19. The student and team awards will be presented at the Student Leadership Banquet on May 2. The faculty and staff awards will be presented at the annual Employee Retirement and Recognition Luncheon on May 21.

Grace Juneau '20

Grace Juneau '20 recently traded her ceramic wheel for a notebook, a pair of skis and a science research team to survey and sketch her largest subject yet, Alaska's 5,000-square-mile Juneau Icefield.

First-year students who took associate professor Tim Harper’s Scribner Seminar, Industry and Innovation, learned how to balance economics and business with ethics and inclusion.

Bread sale: A bread sale will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 26, in the Atrium Café. This week's flavors are vegan pumpkin, vegan pumpkin chocolate chip, vegan banana, gluten-free vegan banana, cinnamon raisin, sourdough and ciabatta.

 

Skidmore Spotlight

Mary Monigan

Mary Monigan works as an editorial associate in the Office of Alumni Relations and College Events. She writes print and digital content, including alumni profiles for Scope Monthly and the annual Alumni Association Awards program, is the Class Notes editor for Scope magazine and manages the alumni Facebook account. She also manages a corps of 70 class correspondent volunteers.

 

Faculty-Staff Achievements

Ian Berry, the Dayton Director of the Tang Teaching Museum, and Benjamin Bogin, director of the Asian Studies Program, appeared on WAMC’s “The Roundtable.”

 

Elizabeth Dubben, teaching lecturer of Arts Administration and coordinator of the Entrepreneurial Artist Initiative, spoke to New York Makers magazine.

 

Penny H. Jolly, professor of art history, published an article.

 

from faculty and staff related to professional accomplishments and scholarly endeavors.

Athletics update

Men’s and women’s lacrosse finish up the regular season at home this week. Men’s lacrosse will honor its seniors before Wednesday’s contest against Vassar at 6 p.m., while the women’s team will honor its seniors after Saturday’s contest against 14th-ranked William Smith at 4 p.m.

 

Skidmore Shop

As of Friday, April 19, the Skidmore Shop is now buying back textbooks.

 

Handmade Pop-Up

, a one-day sale of art and handmade items created by students in the Marketplace for Artists class under Arts Administration's Entrepreneurial Artist Initiative, will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 26, at the Tang Teaching Museum.

 

"Choose Your Words" workshop

Artist Kamau Patton will host a collaborative making workshop, "Choose Your Words With Care, Arrange Your Words With Care," from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, in the Hub Makerspace. Fifteen participants from across campus will work together to print texts that will be installed in public spaces across campus. No experience required. .

 

Out of the Darkness suicide prevention walk

The second annual Out of the Darkness walk for suicide prevention and awareness will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Case Center Green. Registration is free and the walk is open to the community. to help reach the $5,000 fundraising goal. Registration will also be available on-site at 1 p.m. the day of the walk.

 

Skidmore College Orchestra concert

Skidmore College Orchestra presents “Swingin' Galactic Revolutions” at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 28, in Zankel Music Center.

 

Community Coffee Hour

A free coffee hour will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, in the Case Center Spa.

 

"Factuality" board game and dialogue

"Factuality: A 90-minute crash course on structural inequality in America" will be presented from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, in Murray-Aikins Dining Hall, second floor. .

 

De-Stress Fest

All Skidmore staff are invited to attend De-Stress Fest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16, in the Dance Center. It will feature ergonomics for the workplace presentations, chair massages, meditation and yoga, door prizes, therapy dogs and more.
