Honors Convocation

For the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Skidmore community gathered in person for the annual celebration of student academic excellence.

COVID-19 Updates

The College’s Campus Planning webpage is up to date and includes information regarding current policies and guidelines, an archive of College messages, public health resources, the COVID-19 Dashboard, and more.

 

As a reminder, indoor masking is currently required in public spaces throughout campus and will remain in place for at least as long as the CDC continues to designate the Saratoga County Community Level as "High." KN95 masks (or equivalent) are required.

Dining Services

Please visit the Dining Services website regularly for updates, Spa specials, hours of operation, and other information.

 

In line with recent updates to Skidmore’s COVID-19 policies, Murray-Aikins Dining Hall is now open to faculty, staff, and visitors in addition to students.

Human Resources

Human Resources encourages Skidmore staff to review open positions on campus and to encourage their professional networks to apply. You can also access current open positions for external applicants here.

 

Employee Retirement and Recognition Event

This year's Employee Retirement and Recognition Event will be held in person, from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, on Case Green. A formal invitation with additional details was emailed to employees on Tuesday, May 3.

 

Free one-on-one retirement consultations with Vanguard

Employees can schedule a one-on-one phone consultation with a Vanguard retirement planning counselor on Wednesday, May 25. You can sign up for an appointment by going to the website and selecting New York/Skidmore College/Saratoga Springs/one-on-one sessions.

Faculty-Staff Achievements

We welcome submissions from faculty and staff related to professional accomplishments and scholarly endeavors. Please note: Faculty-Staff Achievements will not be published over the summer, from June 1 through Aug. 24.

Eunice S. Ferreira, associate professor of theater, signed a book contract, was featured on the MLK Saratoga website, and participated in residencies at Lipscomb University and Trevecca Nazarene University. Read more>>

 

Heather Hurst, associate professor of anthropology, was interviewed by Smithsonian, National Geographic (France), American Archaeology, and other media. Read more>>

 

Stephen Ives, associate professor of health and human physiological sciences, presented two research projects with Kendall Zaleski ’22 and published them in a scientific journal. Read more>>

 

Kelly Melekis, associate professor of social work, was awarded a grant from the New York Six Liberal Arts Consortium to develop a new course with colleagues from Union College and St. Lawrence University. Read more>>

Announcements

Commencement 2022

Skidmore will hold in-person Commencement Exercises for the Class of 2022 on Saturday, May 21, at Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The ceremony will also be livestreamed on the Skidmore website. SPAC is an outdoor venue and, in turn, masks are not required for graduates or those attending the ceremony. However, Skidmore College is mask supportive and anyone who wishes to wear one may. Proof of vaccination is not required at SPAC.

 

Billie Tisch Center for Integrated Sciences Naming Ceremony and East Wing Dedication

Members of the Skidmore community are invited to the naming ceremony and East Wing dedication of the Billie Tisch Center for Integrated Sciences at 11:15 a.m. Friday, May 20, in the tent near the East Wing Entrance. The ceremony will recognize the many contributions of Wilma “Billie” Stein Tisch ’48, a longtime trustee and one of its most generous donors, to Skidmore. Box lunches will be available after the ceremony on a first-come, first-served basis to community attendees.

 

SWB summer publication schedule

From June 1 through Aug. 24, the Bulletin will be published biweekly and distributed to faculty and staff only. It will also be posted online. The Faculty-Staff Achievements section will not be published over the summer. SWB will resume weekly publication (with Faculty-Staff Achievements) on Aug. 31. Biweekly issues of SWB will be published June 1, 15, and 29; July 13 and 27; and Aug. 10 and 24. The deadline for submission is Monday at noon. To submit an announcement or for inquiries, please contact swb@skidmore.edu.

 

State-of-the-College Finances and Compensation Presentation

From 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, President Conner will lead a virtual presentation on the State of the College, with information presented by Vice President of Finance and Administration Donna Ng, Dean of the Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael Orr, and Interim Director of Human Resources Sarah Delaney Vero. Topics will include the budget for next year as approved by the Board of Trustees; a summary of the budget for this current fiscal year; next year’s general salary adjustment (GSA); results from the staff and faculty compensation studies; an overview of Skidmore benefits and compensation; and other key elements of the College’s financial status and outlook. All Skidmore employees are invited to attend. The presentation will also be recorded and available to view later. There will be opportunities and mechanisms for questions and feedback. More details will be shared soon.

 

Fiscal Year-End Reminders from Financial Services

Please review these detailed guidelines ahead of the close of the fiscal year on May 31. You are encouraged to submit expense reimbursements, invoices for payment, and related items in advance of the deadlines. As a reminder, all transactions are now handled through Oracle Cloud.

 

Class of 2020 Commencement Celebration

At long last, nearly 300 members of the Class of 2020 and their families will return to campus June 3 and 4 to reunite with each other and Skidmore. Faculty and staff are invited to attend two events planned for the special occasion: a lunch in the Murray-Aikins Dining Hall from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Friday, June 3, and a Celebration ceremony from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, in Arthur Zankel Music Center. The program will also be livestreamed in the Filene Recital Hall. Look for an email next week with more details and registration information.

 

Athletics News

The Skidmore College women’s tennis team beat Baruch College 5-0 to advance to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on May 13. The Thoroughbreds then dropped a 5-0 match to Amherst College on May 14. The team finished with a 13-6 record. Zachary Portnoy will represent Skidmore as one of 32 players competing in the NCAA Division III singles tournament May 27-29 in Orlando, Florida. The doubles team of Sergiu Celebidachi and John Rado were third alternates in the 16-pair doubles tournament and will move into the field if some teams are not able to play.

 

Center for Leadership, Teaching, and Learning

The Scholarly and Creative Endeavors (SCE) group will continue to meet throughout the summer. Have lunch with folks outside Case Center or participate via Zoom. June Paul and Ruth McAdams will facilitate a group from noon to 1 p.m. each Tuesday, from May 31 through July 1. Aarathi Prasad and Lia Ball will facilitate from noon to 1 p.m. during the second summer session each Tuesday, from July 5 through Aug. 5.

 

Attention Skidmore musicians: Skidmania planned for fall 2022

“Skidmania” is planned for fall 2022 at Arthur Zankel Music Center. Inspired by the beloved and long-running Beatlemore, this reboot celebrates the music of 50 years ago, fueled by the talent and imagination of Skidmore student musicians. Auditioned student acts will present creative twists on familiar music or tributes — all based on selections from the music of 1972. Audition details will be announced early in the fall semester. Give+Go help needed, Sunday, May 22

Our annual student move-out donation collection diverts tens of thousands of pounds of usable material to reuse in the Saratoga community. Staff and faculty volunteers are needed to sort and bag material for our nonprofit partners from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday, May 22. Volunteers will be given lunch and an on-campus dining gift certificate as thanks. Family members are also welcome. Please sign up online. 9 Miles East Fall CSA

Skidmore students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome to participate in the popular Saratoga community-supported agriculture (CSA) each fall. 9 Miles East Farm delivers a big assortment of freshly harvested vegetables each week for 12 weeks during the fall semester. The 2022 season is scheduled for Sept. 9 to Nov. 23. The cost is $360 for the 12-week season. A subscription is required; only 100 shares are available. Sign up online.

 

Reunion Student Assistant Positions

The Office of Alumni Relations and College Events has temporary job openings for students (16 to 23 years old) for two Alumni Reunion Weekends, June 2-5 and June 10-12. Please apply online by May 18. Contact Janis Petroski for more information.

 

Skidmore Shop

The Skidmore Shop will be closed the week of May 23. It will reopen on Tuesday, May 31.
