Charlotte Mahn ‘25 interviews faculty member and podcaster Christine O’Donnell about Skidmore’s John B. Moore Documentary Studies Collaborative (MDOCS) and the art of audio documentary in this audio feature. MDOCS “is for anyone who wants to tell a story,” says the English major.

Drop by Scribner Library from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 31, to visit the library's new Creative Corridor, learn about new library resources and changes to the website, chat with librarians and staff, and enjoy some snacks.

Announcements

Skidmore Weekly Bulletin submission procedure and schedule 

Starting this week, Bulletin will continue weekly publication for the duration of the academic year. Please help reduce bulk emails by posting your announcement in the Bulletin. Submit announcements and eventsacademic lectures, and faculty-staff achievements by completing the appropriate online form. The deadline for all submissions is noon on Monday. Please email swb@skidmore.edu if you have questions. 

 

New director of admissions named 

Janessa Dunn will join Skidmore as director of admissions on Sept. 1. As associate dean of admissions at Wake Forest University, Dunn spearheaded successful recruitment and enrollment initiatives, including an overhaul of the university’s application review and selection process that minimized unconscious bias across readers and helped the admissions team navigate a 20% increase in applications. Recently, she has been leading efforts to strategize recruitment following the Supreme Court ruling in the Harvard and UNC cases on race-conscious admissions. Dunn formerly held leadership roles at Vanderbilt University and Georgia Southern University. A chemistry major at Georgia Southern University, she received her M.Ed. and Ed.D. from Vanderbilt University.

 

Traffic advisory during Pre-Orientation move-in

As over 400 students will be arriving on campus between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, for Pre-Orientation move-in, staff and faculty are asked to please avoid the North Broadway entrance and use the Clinton Street entrance, especially between 8 and 10 a.m. that morning. You may want to consult your supervisor to see if remote work is possible during this timeframe. If you have a child at Greenberg Child Care Center, please also use the Clinton Street entrance, take a left toward Palamountain Hall, then use the service entrance to get to Greenberg. Campus Safety will send out an email early next week with lot closures and additional information.

 

Seeking International Friendship Family hosts

Be paired with a new international student to join in on your family fun. Invite them to join you for a coffee break on campus, holiday celebrations at your house, or any family activity. The International Friendship Family program invites both individuals and families to participate in this great opportunity for cross-cultural sharing. Complete this sign-up form or contact Chloe Jaleel for information.

 

Founder's Day 

The entire Skidmore campus community is invited to join in celebration of the start of the fall semester with family-friendly fun at the Founder’s Day Picnic from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, under the tent in Upper South Park. In addition to fabulous food, the event will feature music for all ages and fun for the kids, including a bounce house. Murray-Aikins Dining Hall will be closed during this time. 

 

New hours for Broadview FCU

Summer hours for the Broadview FCU (formerly SEFCU) branch on campus are 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Regular, full-time hours will resume on Monday, Aug. 28. Hours will be Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a lunch break from 1:15 to 2 p.m. 

 

Dining Services  

Through Friday, Sept. 1, Dining Services will continue to offer a pop-up grill from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday on Case Walkway. The grill features a menu of hot dogs, burgers (both beef and plant-based), and grilled chicken. Hours for The Spa, Burgess, The Atrium, and Murray-Aikins Dining Hall are available on the Dining Services website. Academic year hours for Murray-Aikins Dining Hall begin on Saturday, Sept. 2. The Spa will be closed for Labor Day, but will reopen with its regular fall hours on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Burgess will be open for limited hours on Labor Day and resume regular fall hours on Sept. 5.
