Application & Audition

Please read this entire page for instructions on how to apply before continuing on to the online application.

Institute Dates: July 8 – 21, 2018 

Application Review and Deadline:  Application review begins March 1. Requests for financial assistance in the form of scholarships are due March 1.  If you wish to submit a late financial request for consideration, you may do so by following the instructions on this page, with the understanding that the review process may have already begun and we have a limited amount of financial assistance available. 

Applicants will be notified on their acceptance status on or before March 15, 2018.

Eligibility: 

Advanced young musicians, ages 15 and up, will be required to submit the items below. Pre-formed ensembles are eligible to apply as a group and should contact Coleen Stephenson at (518) 580-5447 or cstephen@skidmore.edu for more specific instructions. 

Audition Requirements

Recordings submitted online

For individuals:
Please prepare two movements from contrasting pieces. 
The first piece should be a movement from a standard concerto or sonata. A sonata should be performed with piano accompaniment.
The second piece may be a movement from an unaccompanied work, a show piece, or a movement of solo Bach. 
 
For pre-formed ensembles:
Please prepare two movements from contrasting pieces. 
Members of the ensemble that also wish to be considered as individuals should submit a movement from a standard concerto or sonata.
 

Live auditions

Applicants in or around the NYC area are encouraged to audition live.
 
Live auditions are being held the afternoon of January 21, 2018 at Carnegie Hall’s Resnick Education Wing, 154 W 57th St, New York, NY. Applicants will be sent more information upon receipt of their application, but should prepare the following pieces. 
 
For individuals:
Follow the same guidelines as the recorded auditions. 
Piano accompaniment is not required, however for applicants performing a sonata, please bring your own pianist. 
 
For pre-formed ensembles: 
Please prepare two movements from contrasting pieces. 
Members of the ensemble that also wish to be considered as individuals should prepare a movement from a standard concerto or sonata.
 

International Students
In accordance with U.S. Federal regulations, all non-U.S. Citizens must have a student visa to study in the United States. You may not attend Skidmore on a tourist visa. If you are an international student applying to the summer program please view International Student Visa Info.
