Leadership and Service Through Music
An intensive summer experience for young musicians offering multiple performance opportunities and meaningful community engagement
A gift to the Decoda │ Skidmore Chamber Music Institute helps foster musicianship, ambassadorship and citizenship in young musicians. Students in this two-week Institute improve their chamber music skills and learn how to share their passion for music with others. Young artists are expected to challenge their creative thinking and engage their audiences by educating them about the music, its structures and it origins. These "informances" are performed on campus and in the local community for audiences that include a range of attendees from elementary school-aged children, to residents in senior-living facilities. Support Skidmore's newest Summer Arts Institute and assure that it continues to grow and flourish. Your gift will educate the youngest artists in the 21st century and have an even wider impact on the regional community.
The Institute was the most honest music program I have ever been a part of. The faculty immediately fostered a setting in which every student could be unabashed about their differences, and from that we were able to quickly get to know each other. In everything they did, it was obvious that the faculty cared deeply about the growth of each student and ensemble. The passion each of them has is infectious and assures their students that with the same diligence and love of learning, they can accomplish anything. Most importantly, at the heart of Decoda is that incredible classical music can and should be enjoyed by everyone. As lofty as classical music can often get, we were always rooted by the idea that we were creating an experience that anyone could enjoy.
