College Wordmark

Dear Friends,                                                                                                                               August 2017

We are pleased to announce that the annual lecture series Skidmore Encore will be offered to the community beginning this October. We look forward to welcoming you to campus for another intellectually stimulating series of lectures and presentations by the remarkable Skidmore College faculty.

Skidmore Encore is open to those age 55 and over from across the local region. This year’s series begins on October 3 and 5 and ends on November 14 and 16, 2017. Three presentations—two in the morning and the third after lunch—will be held each Tuesday and Thursday during this period. All sessions are held in Gannett Auditorium in Palamountain Hall, and lunch will be served in the college dining facility.

Faculty members from many liberal arts disciplines will deliver a lively array of presentations on topics and themes that change weekly. During the program you will hear from a total of 21 instructors. A detailed schedule of presenters and topics is attached. You may view it online, along with schedules from previous years on the Skidmore Encore website.

Online registration: Online registration begins at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2017. An email will be sent to you the morning of August 21 with a link to the registration page; you may also visit the Skidmore Encore website, where the link will also be posted at that time. Once you register and pay for the program online, you will receive immediate email confirmation of your enrollment. Waiting lists will be developed when we reach capacity.

Cost: Full payment is required to complete your online registration. The cost to participants is $270. Scholarships are available to those whose annual income falls below $22,000. All scholarship requests are subject to verification, and you may be asked for a copy of your most recent tax return for that purpose.

Transportation: If you plan to drive your car, simply complete the vehicle information section of the online registration form. Prior to the start of the program, we will mail you a parking sticker with instructions. You also have the option of riding the CDTA bus to Skidmore or taking Prestwick Chase courtesy transportation if you live in that community. We encourage carpooling, as parking on campus is limited. Allow yourself ample time to find parking in designated visitor lots.

Back by popular demand: Bring-a-Guest Day! Participants may choose to bring a guest to the lecture series per the following schedule:

Tuesday Encore participants with last names:

  • A–L: Guest Day is October 17, 2017
  • M–Z: Guest Day is October 24, 2017

Thursday Encore participants with last names:

  • A–L: Guest Day is October 19, 2017
  • M–Z: Guest Day is October 26, 2017

Your registration packet will include a guest ticket to fill out and give to a friend.
