20 The Juniors’ Show is an exhibition of artwork by junior art students nominated for inclusion by their Studio Art professors, based on work they’ve created in the 2018 – ‘19 year. The Juniors Show Artists’ Talk compels students to think critically about their work and to discuss it in an effective way. The exhibition and talk are excellent preparation for the Senior Art Major Exhibition, and for a life in the arts. 5. Self-Determined Major Senior Presentations: Birth and Chinese Women’s Literature Tisch 203 (3:20 p.m. start) Faculty Sponsor: Catherine Berheide, SDM Presenters: Lydia Bernard-Jones ’19, Daniela Carela ’19, Starr Phillips ‘19 Self-determined majors are required to complete a final capstone project. Three seniors will showcase their scholarly research on topics ranging from public health issues in birth (including an examination of where women choose to deliver, at home or in a facility, and the effect of race on adverse birth outcomes among Black and Latina women) to the portrayal of women’s roles and identity, particularly in regard to love and marriage, in Chinese women’s literature. Honors Capstone Projects in Gender Studies Tisch 307 Faculty Sponsors: Kate Graney & Gwen D’Arcangelis, Gender Studies Presenters: Marley Amico ’19, Dana Keyes-Gibbons ’19, Hayley Mulhern ’19, Biba Contin ’19, Liv Ring ‘19 Capstone projects in Gender Studies based on original research on: sex education among college students; the commodification of the “breast cancer patient” by media and industry; masculinity, hook-up culture and rape-myth acceptance at a prestigious liberal arts college; and the intersectional proliferation of oppressions in the practices of athletics at Skidmore College.
