First-Year Experience

Welcome, Class of 2027!

Rachel Roe-Dale Choosing your college is a profound moment in your educational journey, and we are excited you have elected to attend Skidmore. As you celebrate this milestone, we are eagerly preparing for your arrival on campus, and we look forward to welcoming you this fall.

– Professor Rachel Roe-Dale, Director of the First-Year Experience

What's next?

Over the next several weeks, you will receive information from a variety of campus offices that will outline tasks you need to complete and help you prepare for your fall arrival. Below is a summary of these administrative tasks and their deadlines. To track your progress on these items, we have created an interactive First-Year Experience Checklist, available through your Skidmore Oracle account.

FYI from FYE Newsletter

FYI from FYE is an email newsletter that will arrive each month with assignments for the month. It will be sent to your Skidmore email address. If you do not receive the newsletter (the first will arrive May 3), please contact our office. This newsletter will remind you of upcoming deadlines and keep you informed of key plans for your fall arrival. If it's helpful, you can also subscribe your parents/guardians.

Summer Reading

Summer Reading

We're excited to announce that the Class of 2027 summer reading is Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. This text explores what it means to be human, curiosity, learning, and knowledge, as well as artificial intelligence.

The FYE Summer Reading is designed to provide a common intellectual journey that generates questions, prompts conversations, and binds the first-year class together.

More information will be shared in the coming weeks.
