Infectious Disease

Infectious diseases are caused by microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi; the diseases can be spread, directly or indirectly, from one person to another. Some infectious diseases of animals can cause disease when transmitted to humans (lyme, for example).  While infectious diseases aren't limited to those covered in the sidebar, those listed are some of the ones more commonly found.
