Protein is vital for growth and repair in the human body. Muscles, bones, blood, and fingernails are all built on the basic framework that protein provides. Protein also keeps our eyesight healthy, helps to build antibodies, enzymes, hormones, and other important compounds. Protein provides 4 calories per gram and is made of amino acids (our body can make 11 amino acids but there are 9 essential amino acids we need to get from the foods that we eat).
