STD and HIV Testing

STD counseling and testing is available by appointment only. Testing is performed during the academic school year. The cost for testing is dependent on the tests ordered by the provider. Call 518-580-5550 to schedule an appointment.

HIV testing and counseling is also available by appointment. On September 1, 2010, New York State's new HIV testing law took effect. The goal of this new law is to increase the number of people being tested leading to faster identification of HIV positive patients who do not know their status. The law requires that an offer of HIV related testing be made to all persons between the ages of 13 and 64 recieving hospital or primary care services except under specific circumstances. Health Services staff members will be discussing the "Offer of HIV testing" to students at least once in their time as a Skidmore student.

Testing is voluntary and can be done as a confidential test at Health Services or as an anonymous test at a public testing center. The law protects the confidentiality of HIV test results and other related information.
