Student Rating of Courses and Teaching

Key Dates and information

The Student Ratings of Courses and Teaching will be administered online for Spring 2021.

  • Thursday, April 15: Withdrawal deadline.
  • Monday, April 19: Students and Faculty will receive an email explaining the student ratings process.
  • Tuesday, April 20: Students will receive an email from ‘Class Climate Admin <classclimate@skidmore.edu>’ containing links to each course in which they were enrolled* as of Thursday, April 15.  * Auditors and independent study students do not complete ratings.
  • Tuesday, May 4: Last day of classes.
  • Wednesday, May 5: Ratings forms will close at midnight.

Information for Departments and Programs

  • Department assistants will not need to manage distribution of all-college student ratings ("Dean's Cards"). Institutional Research will distribute directly to students emails with links to ratings forms (Dean's Cards only). Departmental evaluations will still need to be distributed separately by each specific department/program.
  • Faculty will receive a notification from ‘Class Climate Admin <classclimate@skidmore.edu>’ that students have been invited to rate their course on Tuesday, April 20.
  • Faculty will receive a response rate notification for any courses with less than 100% response rate on Sunday, April 25.

Information for Students

The links in the email you receive will appear like this example. The links are unique to each student, but responses are anonymous, just as they were with paper forms.  https://arbiter.skidmore.edu/classclimate/online.php?pswd=XXXXXXXXXXXXXX (Course Name (Course Code))

  • You may receive up to two reminder emails with links if you have not completed all of your forms.
  • Links for individual courses expire upon submission. You will not be able to return to a form or change your response after submitting it.
  • Auditors and independent study students do not receive Ratings forms. You will not receive links for independent studies or courses that you are auditing.
  • If you are in a course taught by more than one instructor, you may receive multiple form links for the same course – one for each instructor.
  • If you have withdrawn from, added, or dropped a course after April 15, that change will not be reflected in the ratings forms you receive.
  • The Ratings forms will close on May 5 (Wed) at midnight.
  • Separately, you will receive emails asking you to respond to the department or program feedback forms (long form) which provide you the opportunity to comment at length to the prompts.

If you have concerns about the Student Ratings process, please email Kerry Nelson in the Office of Institutional Research. For concerns about Department or Program Feedback forms, please contact the department/program.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter as Student Ratings and Feedback Surveys provide instructors with valuable information to assist them in evaluating their teaching and improving their courses.
