IT-Supported Mailing Lists

To email the entire Skidmore community with critical information that must be delivered as soon as possible (bypasses SGA moderation of student email):

  • Put your name in the "To:" field
  • In the "BCC" field, put the following lists:
    • all-employees-list
    • allclasslists
  • Note: You must be on the "approved senders" list in order to bypass moderation and have your emailed delivered to the students. Contact the Help Desk for more information.

To email the entire Skidmore community (non-emergency email):

  • Put your name in the "To:" field
  • In the "BCC:" field, type in "everyone-list"
  • Email will be immediately delivered to the all-employee-list, and will be delivered to the SGA moderator for digest release to all students. Digesting is done three times per week, generally on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

General Information on Campuswide Email Lists

  • Always include @skidmore.edu in the email list address. For example, type yourlist@skidmore.edu, and not just yourlist.
  • There is no moderation of the student email during the summer months and during the break between semesters. Your email will not be delivered to student lists during these times.

Information on our major lists

  • all-employees-list
    • Anyone with a valid Skidmore email account may send to this list.
    • This list is to be used for college-related business only.
    • The all-employee-list is composed of:
      • staff-list (exempt and non-exempt staff list, maintained by Human Resources)
      • faculty-list (all faculty, maintained by DOF/VPAA's office)
      • hourly-list (all hourly/union employees, maintained by Human Resources)
      • retiree-list (all retirees, maintained by Human Resources)
  • everyone-list
    • Anyone with a valid Skidmore email account may send to this list.
    • This list is to be used for college-related business only.
    • The everyone-list is composed of:
      • all-employees-list
      • announce@skidmore.edu, the SGA moderator. The message will be distributed to all students as part of a digest of student announcements that are sent out by the moderator. These messages get sent to the current class lists.
      • All trustees who have requested inclusion; this was added at the request of the President's Office.
  • allclasslists
    • Anyone with a valid Skidmore email account may send to this list, but the list is moderated.
    • A message to the allclasslists will go to announce@skidmore.edu, for the moderator to review.
    • Appropriate messages, approved by the moderator, will be included in the next student digest.
  • Individual class lists
    • Mailing lists for the individual classes (class of 2017, 2018, etc.) are now located in Office 365 and are maintained automatically. Only the people on the "Approved Senders" list can send to these class lists. The individual class lists include:
      • Class2017@skidmore.edu
      • Class2018@skidmore.edu
      • Class2019@skidmore.edu
      • Class2020@skidmore.edu

Edit a Mailing List

Obtain a Mailing List

Whether you desire a mailman or classic list, please make the request through a help ticket with the following information:

  • Username of the manager of the list
  • Possible name for the list (server administrator may revise it)
  • Reason for the list in five to eight words
  • If requesting a mailman list, what restrictions do you want to place on senders?

Transfer a Mailing List to a New Owner

The current owner of a list should visit the help desk in Scribner Library during weekday office hours or enter a help ticket stating:

  • The name of the list(s) to be transferred
  • The username of the new manager
