Oppedisano takes over Skidmore golf program

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-- Skidmore College has named Tom Oppedisano head men's golf coach.

Oppedisano has been the Thoroughbred assistant coach since 2013. He took over the program on an interim basis this past spring, leading the team to the Liberty League championship and a return trip to the NCAA Division III championships.

He is currently the director of marketing and membership at the Edison Club in Rexford, N.Y. and was the head golf professional at McGregor Links from 2010 to 2015.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Tom Oppedisano as the head men's golf coach," said Gail Cummings-Danson, Skidmore athletics director. "Tom has proven himself as a PGA professional and has been honored within the golf profession for his ability to instruct as well as his contributions to golf education.  His positive ties to the Capital District and the golf community will assist with a smooth transition for our program and continue its rich tradition of success.

"As Tom leads the young men who are a part of our program, there is no doubt that he will do so in a manner that will ignite the passion that they have for the game of golf and for their academic success."

One of the region's top players, he has served as head professional at the Orchard Creek Golf Club in Altamont, the Woodlake Country Club in Lakewood, N.J., and the Commonwealth National Golf Club in Horsham, Pa.

A 1992 graduate of Clemson University, Oppedisano began his golf career at the Ballston Spa Country Club and spent a season on the Tommy Armour Tour.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to be the head golf coach at such a great institution as Skidmore College," Oppedisano said. "The team had great success this past spring and I look forward to continuing Skidmore's long tradition of excellence. As a Saratoga guy, it's great to be home!"

With Oppedisano at the helm, Skidmore came from behind to win the Liberty League championship in April. It was the eighth Liberty League and 17th overall UCAA/Liberty League title for the Thoroughbreds who played in the program's 28th NCAA tournament.

Skidmore returns six of its top seven players when the team returns to action in September.
