Rob Hutchison named head men’s ice hockey coach

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-- Rob Hutchison, a 2007 Skidmore graduate, will return to his alma mater as head men's ice hockey coach.  Hutchison has been coaching varsity boys hockey at Trinity-Pawling School since 2007, including the past six seasons as head coach.

A two-sport collegiate all-star, Hutchison was inducted into the Skidmore Athletics Hall of Fame in 2014.

"We are excited to have Rob return to the Skidmore campus as the head men's ice hockey coach," said Gail Cummings-Danson, Skidmore athletics director. "As an alum of the hockey program, Rob is keenly aware of the program's potential and will serve as an outstanding leader and mentor for the young men on the team.

"His passion for Skidmore College, coupled with his hockey knowledge and his proven leadership skills make him an outstanding choice to serve as Skidmore's head ice hockey coach."

The Waterville, N.Y. native was a three-sport prep standout during a post-graduate year at Trinity-Pawling.  While at Skidmore, Hutchison led both the baseball and ice hockey teams to post season play.

He was a two-year captain for the Thoroughbred hockey team, earning team MVP honors twice, three ECAC East All-Academic awards, and ECAC East Honorable Mention his senior season. He ranks 12th on the program's all-time scoring list with 44 goals and 53 assists for 97 points.

Hutchison led the baseball team to two Liberty League titles and two NCAA tournament berths. He was Liberty League All-Academic three times and his single-game seven stolen bases remains an NCAA Division III record.

"I can't be more excited for the opportunity to return to Skidmore College," Hutchison said.  "I have the utmost respect Gail Cummings-Danson and the Skidmore athletic department and look forward to joining the family. The potential and positive energy around the hockey program is evident and I am eager to work with a motivated group of young men.

"I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge how incredibly thankful I am for the experiences and relationships Trinity-Pawling afforded me and wish that program the best of luck."

Hutchison will be the program's third varsity hockey coach since the team began ECAC play in 1983. He succeeds Neil Sinclair who took over the Middlebury College men's ice hockey program earlier this summer.
