HARRISBURG, Pa.— Eight is Great for the Skidmore College equestrian team. The Thoroughbreds won their eighth Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association national championship Saturday at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex.
Skidmore needed no points in the final two events, edging three-time defending national champion Savannah College of Art and Design by two points, 30-28. Stanford University was third with 22 points, and Boston University fourth with 18. Otterbein took fifth (16), followed by St. Lawrence (15), and Mount Holyoke (10) and Virginia Tech (10). There were 16 teams competing.
It was Skidmore's first national championship since the 2013 season. Always a title contender, the Thoroughbreds were fourth in 2017.
On Saturday,
Hannah Tuckner finished third of 24 in the prestigious Cacchione Cup for the nation's top high point riders.
