Summer light and nitrites
Before finishing her first year at Skidmore, Heather Ricker ’22 had already landed a spot in professor Juan Navea’s lab studying how light decomposes nitrites. She wrote about her experience in “The chemistry of my first summer at Skidmore.” Ricker was one of 75 students who spent their summer on campus conducting collaborative research with Skidmore faculty this past year.
Wonder
Michael Arnush, chair of the Classics Department, speaks during the second annual Humanistic Inquiry Symposium. Last spring, the two-day event explored the concept of “wonder” by considering topics ranging from Buddhism and European philosophy to American literature and digital photography.

What’s on your playlist?
Jourdain Patrick ’20 is photographed for his Life at Skidmore story titled, “The universal language of mixes, mashups and melodies.” In it, he describes how everyone at Skidmore has a unique playlist for their college journey, and, when you mix them together, things really start to vibe.
Join the club
What do Ultimate Frisbee, a cappella, physics and activism have in common? They are all part of the Student Government Association Club Fair, a Skidmore tradition that punctuates the first week of the academic year. Here, members of Hayat Club encourage students to join them in celebrating the cultures, social trends and traditions of the Middle East, North Africa and Southwest Asia.
Where will you be when you’re 93?
Lewis Taub, a 93-year-old retired optometrist, finished auditing his 50th course at Skidmore. After taking two courses a year for 25 years — the equivalent of 150 credits — he said his presence offered fellow classmates important lessons: “You’re not too old to learn something … and maybe they appreciate their parents more.”
Leading the Liberty League
Members of the Skidmore men’s basketball team celebrated their fifth Liberty League championship after a dominating 82-66 victory over the Hobart Statesmen. It was a big year for Skidmore sports, with men’s and women’s tennis also earning Liberty League titles.
The band is back together
Alumni from classes ending in 4 and 9 gathered for Skidmore Reunion this year to reminisce,
create new Skidmore memories and enjoy all that campus and Saratoga Springs have to
offer.

going after the much-anticipated class parade.
Our biggest fans
The Skidmore community is celebrating 17 years of leadership by President Philip and Marie Glotzbach, who spoke this fall to Scope magazine. “It’s not the things I’ve done; it’s things we’ve all done together, over time, to move the College to where it is,” said President Glotzbach, who will retire at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year.
Action architects
The members of Streb Extreme Action — aka “extreme action heroes” — spent their summer residency at Skidmore teaching community members to fly. The company, which fuses modern dance, sports, gymnastics and elements of the circus-like acrobatics, held several open rehearsals and interactive workshops in the Tang Teaching Museum.
Building science
Over the past year, we’ve all watched as the Center for Integrated Sciences rose from the ground. Every step of its journey has been a sight to behold and every hand has made a difference. Here, a brick layer works on the exterior of the North Wing, which is slated for completion in 2020.

Saratoga Springs has long been an ideal location for creative thought to thrive. Some, like Travel & Leisure Magazine, call it one of “America’s best college towns.” We just call it home. This summer, we took to the sky to see our home for all its beauty.
Skids and slide
Skids Scribner slips and slides into freshly fallen snow during Skidmore Cares. This year, the community service program set new records, raising more than $14,000 and donating more than 6,000 food items and nearly 1,000 school supplies to Saratoga County community organizations.

A friendly swiss cow makes our list thanks to Nate Smail ’20, who captured the image while studying abroad in Switzerland. The image won Best in Show in the Office of Off-Campus Study and Exchanges’ 2019 photo contest.

Thanks to user @vivianphoto, more than 1,500 people voted this photo to the top of our Instagram charts for 2019. Whether it is a campus sunset, sunrise or scenic showcase of our many seasons, we can never get enough of seeing our beautiful campus.
