Skidmore recognizes employees during appreciation week
With games, gifts and food, Skidmore College employees gathered in small, socially distant groups and online for festivities recognizing their contributions to a successful fall semester despite the daunting challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Marc Conner thanked faculty and staff for their hard work in allowing the College to reopen this semester and for continuing to advance the College’s mission. In recognition of their effort, diligence and dedication, the president and his cabinet declared the week of Nov. 23 “Giving Thanks to You” week.
Employees participated in online trivia games and Scattergories, virtual happy hours and other activities organized by offices across campus. Fitzy’s Fork in the Road Gourmet Food Truck served Office of Facilities Services and Campus Safety employees Carolina pulled pork, steak sandwiches, grilled mozzarella and tomato pesto sandwiches, cookies, breakfast items and other treats.
Many Skidmore offices supported local businesses, including Putnam Market, Roma Foods, Healthy Living Market and Café, and Northshire Bookstore. Gifts ranged from tasty holiday pies and creative gift baskets to cozy blankets and engaging books.
Employees were also given the day before Thanksgiving off as part of the celebration.
“That’s what this is really all about – giving thanks to all of you because we know you’ve put in just a tremendous amount of effort, and we’ve been really successful on a number of fronts,” Sarah Delaney Vero, interim director of human resources, told employees. “We’ve been able to open and to fulfill our mission for this semester, and that’s really thanks to all of you.”
