AUSTIN, Texas—Skidmore College ice hockey standout
Austin Rook was named to the NCAA Division III 2022 Academic All-America® men's at-large third team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Rook was one of only four ice hockey players among the 45 Division III honorees and one of 17 athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA. He is the second Skidmore hockey player to win the award. Tony Giacin received the honor in 2014.
The recent graduate was a double major in economics and business management.
One of the most decorated players in program history, Rook is a three-time All-New England Hockey Conference honoree. Playing defense, then forward he earned NEHC All-Tournament honors after the Thoroughbreds advanced to their first NEHC Championship game. Rook is a four-time AHCA Scholar, a three-time NEHC All-Academic, and represented his team as the Thoroughbred Award winner three seasons.
Additional honors include: 2022 Skidmore College Senior Athlete Award, 2022 Tim Brown Academic Award, 2022 Skidmore Senior Athlete Academic Award, William E. Weiss Memorial Award in Economics, Linda G. Tanenbaum Memorial Prize in Management and Business, and Omicron Delta Epsilon International Honor Society in Economics.
A three-year captain, Rook served two years as co-chair of Skidmore's SAAC and led the team's community outreach program.
Next season he will play Division I hockey as a graduate student at Long Island University.
