Skidmore in France

Cost

Participants on Skidmore in France Program are charged a program fee comparable to staying on campus for a semester. This fee covers tuition, housing and some meals, orientation, program–sponsored events, international medical insurance, and the administrative services of the University of Minnesota staff in Montpellier and the OCSE staff at the home campus in Saratoga Springs. Students will be billed by Skidmore's Bursar's Office directly.

In addition to the program fee, we suggest students budget an extra $2,000 to $3,000 for personal expenses. For more information, see information for Program Costs and Billing.

The comprehensive fee covers:

  • Tuition, up to 18 credits per semester
  • Housing with a French host family, in a shared apartment or in a studio apartment.
  • Meals with host family (weekdays = two meals a day, weekends = three meals a day) or a meal stipend for students living in a shared or studio apartment.
  • A stipend for transportation/commuting costs within Montpellier
  • All program-sponsored excursions and activities in Montpellier and its surroundings
  • International health insurance
  • Orientations at Skidmore and in Montpellier
  • Administrative support services of the Skidmore staff in Saratoga Springs and in Montpellier

The program fee does not cover:

  • Passport and visa costs
  • Round-trip travel to/from Montpellier
  • Housing and meals before or after official program dates
  • Books and supplies
  • Certain course fees in studio art (materials, equipment, and supplies)
  • Personal expenses
  • Optional excursions offered by University of Minnesota

Please contact OCSE with any questions.

STIPEND

All students participating on the Skidmore in France program will receive a stipend. This stipend is intended to cover the cost of meals and a monthly transportation pass.  The stipend will be disbursed by check before your departure to the France and will vary depending on whether or not you live with a host family or in an apartment.
