Presidential Search Update

July 17, 2019

Dear Members of the Skidmore Community:

On behalf of the Presidential Search Committee, we write to provide the community with an update on the search for the next president of the College. As communicated to the campus in the spring, the Committee held a campus-wide forum in conjunction with the Board of Trustees May meeting. In addition to answering questions regarding the search and gathering information and suggestions from the community, this forum served as an excellent opportunity for the community to meet the members of the Search Committee and the Board. We were pleased with the turnout and thank all those who attended.

Your participation and input into this process via the online survey, open forums, comments via the web form and emails directly to the Committee and our search firm have significantly impacted the focus and scope of our search. From all of the input, a number of common themes surfaced regarding what the community would like to see in the future leadership of Skidmore. This data has assisted the Committee in identifying the desired qualities and experience that we are looking for in prospective candidates and by which we will evaluate the candidate pool.

Over the past few months, we have received a number of nominations from the community and our team at Storbeck Pimentel has been actively following up with all prospective candidates. The Storbeck team has also used our position requirements to identify and recruit additional candidates — beyond those nominated or who have applied for the position.  The committee recently met to review this current field of candidates and overall found it to be a pool of talented and diverse individuals. This recruiting and follow-up will continue throughout the summer.

The committee will meet in August and in September to narrow the pool by identifying the highest potential candidates. In order to prepare for this important task of evaluating candidates, the Committee has been working diligently with our Storbeck team to develop a rubric by which each candidate will be assessed. We strive to uphold a fair and balanced process, and thank each member of the Committee for their contributions and commitment to this goal.

It is not too late to lend your voice to this important process! If you have nominations and/or comments for consideration, please take a moment to complete the web form located on the search webpage. As we have new information to report, we will post updates to the community. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer and thank you all for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Jon Achenbaum and Maxine Isaacs
