How does the Family Right to Privacy Act affect the release of my College records?
Skidmore College must obtain the consent of the student before disclosing personally identifiable information from the educational records. Such consent must include a specification of the records to be disclosed, the purpose or purposes of the disclosure, and the party or class of parties to whom the disclosure may be made. Your completion of the request form constitutes a release.
The Registrar's Office maintains student academic records from 1911 to the present.
An "official transcript" is printed on a special form, bears the signature of the Registrar, a statement indicating the student is in good standing, and a transcript key. The "unofficial transcript" contains the same information shown on the front of the "official transcript" and is marked "UNOFFICIAL". Transcript key available at https://www.skidmore.edu/registrar/transcripts/transkey.php
Transcript Requests are online forms. Current students and Alumni graduating after
1985 can view and print their own unofficial transcript.

The Skidmore College transcript is an official document. To protect the validity of the transcript, it is normally mailed directly to a college, university, governmental agency, employer, etc. In the event of a self-managed application, official transcripts maybe issued to the student in a signed, sealed envelope. The name of the actual recipient is required to process the request.
As of June 1, 2009, there is no charge for a Skidmore College transcript.
Can transcripts be sent via express mail?
Transcripts can be sent Priority or Express mail if the student supplies the label
and packaging with the request.
You may establish a USPS Click-N-Ship account. Complete the mailing label and send us a copy of it via fax or email. We will process your request and send the label with the transcript to the Skidmore Post Office where they will supply the envelope, attach the label, and mail the transcript.
To have your transcript mailed 'ASAP', select "Now" for Send When, and do NOT request
special instructions. 'ASAP' means your transcript(s) will be mailed no later than the end of the next business day. If you type anything in the special instructions box, it could take additional time to process. During examinations, recording of grades, registration and commencement additional time maybe required.
You can fax in your request. Please include the following statement after your signature: "A photocopy of this document shall be considered as valid as the original." Our fax number is (518) 580-5749.
An unofficial transcript may be faxed to the student or designated recipient (school, university, employer). Indicate recipient's name, complete mailing address, and phone number in your request. In the Special Instructions box type "Fax to recipient at <fax number> ". When the transcript is processed, a copy will be faxed with a note "Official transcript will follow US mail".
No. If a self-managed application requires the recipient's envelope, include it with your request for processing.
Can you send a copy of my transcript from a former institution or the record of my study abroad courses taken through another school along with my Skidmore transcript when I make a request? What happens if my school is closed?
No. The transcript that Skidmore has was issued from that other institution as an official record of your enrollment and grades earned. Skidmore uses the transcript as evidence of the work you did in order to make admissions and/or transfer credit decisions. However, since we have none of the underlying documentation, Skidmore cannot provide an official copy of another institution's record to a third party. If you need to provide official documents to another school or to an employer, you must request them directly from the institution that sponsored and transcripted the courses originally. This is standard practice across the country.
When schools close, the generally accepted practice is for the school to make arrangements with the state-licensing agency to store their records. Find the contact information for the state-licensing agencies. Information about financial aid and closed schools is also available.
