Our college days

A heartfelt video by and for graduating seniors recalls freshman "confusion," the "perspective" and "complexity" of sophomore year, the "tamer" junior experience, and the "cozy" senior feeling of getting "ready to leave" "this place you've learned to love."

Dean of students named

Cerri Banks begins as Skidmore's new dean of students on August 1. Currently a dean at Mt. Holyoke College, she holds a PhD in the cultural foundations of education and has won many honors and scholarships.

From "sweet, soulful balladry" to "heartfelt gospel" to "ethereal chamber pop," this summer's Upbeat on the Roof concerts at the Tang Museum are nothing if not eclectic. They're also intimate, al fresco, casual—and free.

Pirates gold

A live mermaid and pirates, coffee-brined pork, mahi-mahi tacos, and an "anti-scurvy bar" helped Skidmore's dining services win a national gold for a college food-service theme dinner.

Reunion planners wanted

Alumni from class years ending in 2 and 7 are invited to campus in July to plan events, fundraising, and other activities for their reunions in 2017. The classes of 1957–77 will meet July 21–23, and 1982–2012 will meet July 22–24.

Spirit Weekend on campus

Reunion is every five years, but the new Thoroughbred Spirit Weekend is every fall, for every graduate. The all-campus homecoming, Sept. 30–Oct. 2, features athletics events and honors, faculty seminars, and time to enjoy campus and downtown.

Regional events

From Ron Seyb lectures to baseball and music to Days of Caring, Skidmore gatherings are set for Aspen, Cape Cod, New York City, and Williamstown in July and for Saratoga, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Tucson, San Francisco, Seattle, and Chicago in August.

Touring Cuba

"¡Cuba! An Extraordinary People-to-People Experience by Land and by Sea," Jan. 7–16, is now taking reservations. The small-ship cruise includes Old Havana, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, and the Viñales Valley with local experts. [more trips]

Alumni from '10, '11, '14, '16, '91, '92, and '76—from artists to business leaders to award-winning citizens and athletes—are spotlighted this month.

In Memoriam

As a service to classmates, here is a listing of deceased alumni and their online obituaries that Skidmore has recently learned of.
