I had the pleasure of seeing Skidmore’s own Yacub Addy and jazz star Wynton Marsalis at
Lincoln Center this past summer. (I had taken Prof. Addy’s dance class and wrote a paper citing Marsalis in Prof. Tom Denny’s jazz class.) It was a great collaboration of African music and
jazz, and to make the night even better, gumbo, jambalaya, and New Orleans–style drinks were served during intermission. Marsalis is a New Orleans native, and the funds from this event
went to help Hurricane Katrina victims.
