Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

Skidmore is again partnering with MLK Saratoga to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and encourages members of our community to participate in Dr. King Celebration Weekend events from Friday, Jan. 13, through Monday, Jan. 16. Of particular note, Skidmore professors Emmanuel Balogun (political science) and Tammy Owens (American studies) will join “Black Girl Songbook” creator Danyel Smith in a conversation on “Greatest Love of All: The Roots and Revolution of Black Women in Pop” at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14. Four seasons of Skidmore: 2022 in review

2022 saw the return of many beloved traditions to campus and marked the start of a yearlong celebration of the College’s Centennial, giving us all reason to pause and reflect on Skidmore’s past, present, and future.

Dining Services

Murray-Aikins Dining Hall, Atrium Café, The Spa, and Burgess Café will maintain modified hours through Friday, Jan. 20.

Updated monthly staff meeting dates

The dates for monthly staff meetings have been slightly revised. Updated information is available on the HR website. The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 3.

Announcements

Winter Celebration 2023

Join Skidmore friends and colleagues from 6:30 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, for an evening of dining and dancing at Saratoga Springs City Center. There is no charge for Skidmore employees and retirees. The guest fee is $20. RSVP online by Friday, Jan. 27.

 

Expanded virtual health and wellness options for students

Skidmore is partnering with TimelyCare, a robust digital health and well-being platform that offers students free and equitable access to teletherapy services. TimelyCare also offers a service for faculty and staff designed to equip them with information to help students who may be struggling.

 

New electric vehicle stations coming soon

Skidmore is installing nine new electric vehicle stations, bringing the campus total to 14. Energy pricing of $0.20/kWh will start when the new stations are online. Email Tarah Rowse to join the user list. For more information, visit the Sustainability transportation page.

 

COVID-19 Updates

With the confluence of COVID-19, the flu, and RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), Skidmore encourages all members of our community to help keep ourselves and others healthy and safe. All students and employees may pick up free rapid tests and masks at Case Information Desk or at Campus Safety. Please test and mask If symptoms develop. Consider wearing a mask at crowded events, while traveling, or in other places where transmission may be more likely. If you have not received your COVID booster or your flu shot, please consider doing so as soon as you are eligible. COVID-19 updates continue to be posted to Skidmore’s Campus Planning website and Skidmore’s COVID-19 Dashboard.

 

Skidmore Weekly Bulletin submission procedure

Please help reduce bulk emails by posting your announcement in the Bulletin. Submit announcements and events, academic lectures, and faculty-staff achievements by completing the appropriate online form. The deadline for all submissions is noon on Monday. SEFCU hours

The SEFCU campus branch is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The branch is closed daily from 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch. The ATM is available for withdrawals during lunchtime.

 

Tang Teaching Museum reopens Saturday, Jan. 14

The Tang Teaching Museum’s galleries reopen to the public at noon Saturday, Jan. 14. Regular hours will be from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday and from noon to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Faculty are welcome to arrange class meetings at the Tang during their scheduled class times. More information on visiting the Tang is available on its website.

Singer, songwriter, and musician Caroline Rose will perform at Zankel Music Center on Friday, March 31, kicking off her North American tour. Skidmore community members can purchase tickets online. Athletics News

Skidmore hockey to host Castleton University

The Skidmore College ice hockey team will host Castleton University at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, at the Saratoga Springs City Rink. The Thoroughbreds are 10-4-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the New England Hockey Conference. Kaeden Patrick was named NEHC Player of the Week after totaling two goals and three assists in conference wins over Johnson and Wales and UMass-Boston. Connor Wood earned Honorable Mention with a goal and two assists in the Johnson and Wales win.
