Welcome to German for Beginners!

FG 101: Elementary German I and FG 102: Elementary German II introduce students to basic German grammar, writing, conversation, and readings. We adopt a communicative approach, using German in the classroom from the first day. After one semester, students can carry on simple and practical conversations, read short texts, understand spoken directions, and compose straightforword, paragraph-long texts. Each week, the class meets with the professor for four hours of instruction and with an advanced student for one hour of drills and practice. This course is designed for students with no previous study of German.
