Happy Thanksgiving

‌Whether you're staying on campus, traveling, or visiting friends and family, the Office of Communications and Marketing wants to hear how our community is celebrating Thanksgiving this year. Dining Services

Thanksgiving week hours

‌All Dining Services locations will have modified hours during the week of Thanksgiving. The Spa will be closed from Wednesday, Nov. 22, through Sunday, Nov. 26. Burgess Café, Murray-Aikins Dining Hall, and Atrium Café will close at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday for the holiday. Murray-Aikins Dining Hall and Atrium Café will reopen at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 26, for dinner. All Dining Services locations will resume regular hours on Monday, Nov. 27. 

‌Pickup for Thanksgiving breads and pie orders 

‌Pre-ordered Thanksgiving breads and pie orders may be picked up from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, or from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, in Atrium Café.

‘Peacemakers at a Time of War’ webinar

‌The webinar will host Belal Arar and Rabbi Hanan Schlesinger, both members of Roots, a Palestinian-Israeli initiative for understanding, non-violence, and transformation, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27. ‌Tang Teaching Museum Thanksgiving weekend hours 

‌The Tang Teaching Museum will be closed Thanksgiving Day and will resume regular hours Friday through Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. For more information, visit https://tang.skidmore.edu.

‌Strategic Action Agenda 2023-24

‌The Strategic Action Agenda 2023-24 is now posted on the strategic planning website. This document provides context for and review of last year’s agenda and presents five goals for this year’s agenda. These goals emerged from and continue to support Skidmore’s current strategic plan.

‌Skidmore Cares ‌

‌Skidmore Cares — our annual campus-wide effort to support individuals and families in need in our community — is now in its 18th year. Visit the Skidmore Cares website to learn about ways you can support local community organizations. Collected items can be dropped off at Scribner House Carriage House from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 29 and 30.

‌Children’s book drive

‌The Reading Minds Scribner Seminar is hosting a campus-wide book drive to collect new and good-as-new used children’s books, Nov. 27 through Dec. 1. All books will be donated to the Saratoga Children's Literacy League, which provides free books to the children of Saratoga County. Books can be dropped off at the Spa during lunch hours or in Tisch 142. Contact Becca Johnson with questions.

 

‌Research writing workshop 

‌Writing Center peer tutors are hosting a Research Writing Workshop at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, in Scribner Library, room 213. How to find sources, use direct evidence, and incorporate quotations and analysis will be discussed; doughnuts and hot chocolate will be served during the event.

‌Jingle Bell 5K Run

‌The Arthritis Foundation will be hosting its Jingle Bell 5k Run on campus at 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 3. Visit the Arthritis Foundation website for information and to register. Those interested in volunteering at the event should contact Karlene Kunigiel. ‌

‌Looking for 2024 winter job shadowing hosts ‌ ‌

‌The Career Development Center has just launched its 2024 Winter Job Shadowing program and is looking for job shadowing hosts: Skidmore alumni, parents, or employers, who graciously open their doors to provide firsthand insight into the daily demands and responsibilities of their respective fields. Athletics annual apparel sale 

‌Athletics will host its annual sale of new and used apparel from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11, in the Williamson Sports Center’s rec gym. Cash, Skidmore Cards, and checks will be accepted for payment.

Winter Dance Concert 

‌The Department of Dance invites you to its Winter Concert, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1 and 2. The concert will feature work created by our faculty as well as a world premiere piece created by guest choreographer Larry Keigwin. Tickets are available online.

Skidmore Theater: ‘The Courage to Right a Woman’s Wrongs’

‌This devilishly fun play by one of Spain’s most successful ladies of letters will run Dec. 1-3. (The 8 p.m. performance on Friday, Dec. 1, will offer open captioning.) Find tickets online, or contact Skidmore Theater Box Office for more information.

‌‘Arboreal’ at Schick Gallery

‌Schick Gallery presents “Arboreal,” an interdisciplinary exhibition addressing trees and the environment, through Dec. 10. The exhibit features art by seven artists and research materials used to understand forest ecosystems supplied by Skidmore staff and faculty. Visit the Schick Art Gallery website to learn more.

‌Toys for Toga toy drive and fundraiser

‌The Skidmore Shop will be participating in this year’s Toys for Toga drive and fundraiser. If you’d like to donate new, unwrapped toys, visit our in-store dropbox by Dec. 9. Donated toys will be distributed to Franklin Community Center (Saratoga Springs), CAPTAIN Youth and Family Services (Clifton Park), and the Mechanicville Area Community Services Center. You can also donate to the Toys for Toga GoFundMe page.

‌On Monday, Nov. 27, receive free ground shipping on an order of $50 or more on the Skidmore Shop website. Please note that technology, textbooks, and other specialty orders are excluded from this offer.

‌Skidmore Weekly Bulletin submission procedure and schedule

‌Please help reduce bulk emails by posting your announcement in Skidmore Weekly Bulletin, which is distributed to all students and employees. Submit announcements and events, academic lectures, and faculty-staff achievements by completing the appropriate online form. The deadline for all submissions is noon on Monday. Athletics News

The 17th edition of the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational Hockey Tournament is set for Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 25 and 26, at the Saratoga Springs City Rink. The event features four of the nation’s top teams from four different conferences. Skidmore (6-0-1, New England Hockey Conference) will play Tufts University (0-2, New England Small College Athletic Conference) at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Salve Regina University (8-1, Commonwealth Coast Conference) takes on SUNY Brockport (2-5, State University of New York Athletic Conference) play at 5 p.m. The consolation game is at 1 p.m. on Sunday and will be followed by the championship game at 4 p.m. Skidmore has won the last three tournament titles.
