Webinar with Roots/Shorashim/Judur held on Monday November 27 2023

The Skidmore community was invited to attend a webinar, Peacemakers at a Time of War, presented by Roots/Judur/Sorsashim on Monday November 27. This event was hosted by the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life (ORSL) in partnership with the Office of the President and the Racial Justice Initiative.  At a time when there is such a great need for multiple opportunities to come together for learning and sharing across differences it can be help to  learn from those doing the difficult work of peacemaking and community building on the ground.

Roots is a Palestinian-Israeli initiative for understanding, non-violence, and transformation. ORSL has welcomed Roots to our campus twice before for in-person events with the support of many collaborating offices at Skidmore including the Racial Justice Initiative. At those events they shared their personal, interconnected stories and described the challenging grassroots work of this unique collaboration of Palestinians and Israelis. We were grateful to be able to welcome them again, this time via a webinar with Belal Arar and Rabbi Hanan Schlesinger, to share with us about their peacemaking efforts and how those have been challenged and changed in the last month.

More information about the organization is available here: https://www.friendsofroots.net/. Questions for the presenters were submitted before the event via the RSVP form on SkidSync or by emailing orsl@skidmore.edu . We understand that this time and day may not have worked for everyone so the recording has also been made available (see the top of this page for the link) and we hope to offer additional events with Roots and other partners in the coming months. Additional opportunities to engage with related topics will also be announced with sponsorship from offices and departments across campus.
