StartUp Skidmore supports innovation through mentorship, experiential learning

The three-day entrepreneurial workshop and competition helped students hone skills in business, marketing, and design — from turning an idea into a prototype to making a pitch to investors.

Dining Services

‘The Office’- themed dinner

Stop by Murray-Aikins Dining Hall for an ‘Office’-themed dinner based on the popular TV show from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8. Costume prizes, raffles, and giveaways will be available.

Reducing waste at The Spa

As part of efforts to make Skidmore a single-use, plastic-free campus, dine-in plates are now the default option for all meals at The Spa. Those who would like to take their meals to go can opt to enroll in the Reusemore reusable container program or pay $0.25 for a single-use to-go container.

Three-night retirement workshop

David K. Carboni, Ph.D., CFP, an authority in the field of retirement planning, will lead this workshop over Zoom from 5 to 7 p.m. April 3, 6, and 11. Enrollment is limited to 35 employees. Those interested in taking part can register here on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all three sessions.

Eyes Wide Open discussion

Join Evan Mack, David Howson, and students in a discussion about their experience as Periclean Faculty Leaders and their spring 2020 course, The Arts and Rural Poverty: Solving Real World Problems with Creative Solutions, from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in Arthur Zankel Music Center’s Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall. Special guest Michael Iturrino, music teacher at Ticonderoga High School, will be in attendance. Contact Michelle Hubbs for more information.

Exchange Closet is accepting clothing donations

The Skidmore Exchange Closet welcomes donations of clothing in a range of styles in adult or larger youth sizes. Donations can be brought to Case 205-207 during regular business hours. Departmental composting pilot program

The Sustainability Office’s student compost managers are seeking department liaisons to register a compost bin site and be a point of contact. Managers will set up a compost station and will empty bins weekly. Register online or email the compost managers for more information.

SWOP lunch and workshop

Join Sustainability Office staff from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, on the second floor of Murray-Aikins Dining Hall, rooms 1 and 2, for a catered lunch and workplace sustainability workshop to discuss the Sustainable Workplace Operations Program (SWOP). Summer Student Housing

Summer Housing Application opens April 1 and closes on May 5. Summer housing is available to students participating in summer classes, summer collaborative research, internships, independent study, or on-campus employment.

COVID-19 Reminders

Community members are encouraged to review a Jan. 25 email that includes current COVID-19 guidance and information. As a reminder, students may continue to pick up free rapid tests at Case Information Desk or at Campus Safety. Employees are reminded that additional free rapid tests are available through www.covid.gov/tests, and that MVP covers the costs of rapid tests. Students and employees must notify the College if they test positive for COVID-19. Updates continue to be posted to Skidmore’s Campus Planning website and Skidmore’s COVID-19 Dashboard.

Persian Film Series: Roya Sadat's "A Letter to the President"

This gripping 2017 drama about a woman's struggle in contemporary Afghanistan will be screened at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 2, in Lucy Scribner Library, Room 129. Contact Professor Hajar Hussaini or Professor Michael Swellander for more information.

Skidmore Theater presents “The Place that Made You”

A modern-day re-imagining of Jonah and the Whale, this tale of love, loss, and glory in small-town America, written by Darcy Parker Bruce and directed by Tait Brencher '23, will be performed March 3-8. Exploremore: Majors and minors for first- and second-year students

Students are encouraged to take advantage of Exploremore, an opportunity to talk to professors and upper-class students about what it means to major or minor in a specific discipline and how to make the most of your academic career, from Monday, Feb. 20, through Friday, March 3. Learn about upcoming classes, internship opportunities, study abroad, research opportunities, and more.

Student Leadership Award nominations sought

The Skidmore community is invited to nominate students who have made outstanding contributions to the community through their involvement, service, and leadership development activities for several Student Leadership Awards. The deadline is 4 p.m. Monday, March 20.

2023 Make Your Voice Heard Skidmore Public Policy Prize

Students are encouraged to apply to the 2023 Make Your Voice Heard Skidmore Public Policy Prize competition, an opportunity to engage with a public policy issue that is important to them. Full applications must be submitted by email to Marla Melito by 5 p.m. Friday, April 14. First prize is $1,000; two runners-up will each receive $500.

Athletics News

Women’s basketball hosting semifinal

The Skidmore women’s basketball team will host a Liberty League semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 24 (start time TBD) against Vassar College. The women finished second (20-5, 16-2 Liberty League) in the Liberty League standings, with 20 wins for the third time in program history, and first since 2009-10. If the Thoroughbreds are victorious, they will play for the Liberty League championship on Sunday, Feb. 26, with the time and location to be determined. Additionally, the men’s hockey team will travel to Hobart College on Saturday, Feb. 25, in the New England Hockey Conference semifinals. Learn more on the Skidmore Athletics website.
