Jessica Ricker named VP for enrollment, dean of admissions and financial aid

Ricker, who has more than two decades of experience in admissions and enrollment management at liberal arts colleges, will join Skidmore in June.

Dance students collaborate with renowned choreographers to debut new work

Two prolific choreographers from San Francisco-based ODC/Dance participated in a five-day residency at Skidmore College, collaborating with students in the Dance Department to create an original work.

From 5 to 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, Murray-Aikins Dining Hall will present “D-hall does dining out,” a popular chain restaurant-themed dinner.

President’s office hours

President Conner will hold open office hours from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to request a 10-minute, in-person appointment. To register, please email presoff@skidmore.edu. Requests will be handled in the order they are received.

 

VP of Communications and Marketing Open Forum

All members of the Skidmore community are invited to participate in an open forum with the final candidate in the search for the College’s next vice president of communications and marketing in Filene Recital Hall from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. on Monday, March 27. Advance registration is required, and participants must affirm their commitment to confidentiality.

 

Admissions summer jobs

Students interested in serving as summer Thoroughbred Ambassadors for Admissions are invited to learn more and apply for this opportunity online. Altered Book Contest

The eighth annual Lucy Scribner Library Altered Book Contest is open to students, faculty, and staff. Entries will be accepted through noon on Friday, April 7.

 

Library Book Club

Scribner Library’s non-traditional book club is designed as a show and tell, where each person brings a book or two that they would like to share with the group. Come join us from 5 to 6 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, March 23, in Library Meeting Room 128A. No registration is required. For more information, contact Hannah Matecko-Conti.

 

Event Management System (EMS) training available

The Scheduling Office will be offering one-on-one training to employees and students who may need help with using EMS. For more information, contact Megan Bove.

 

Construction updates

Workers are scheduled to begin dredging Haupt Pond on Monday, March 27. An amphibious machine will be used to remove invasive plants, which will be deposited on the shore before being hauled away for disposal. Access to the gazebo and the perimeter of the pond will be restricted. Workers are also completing enhancements to Skidmore’s main entrance, including the installation of new directional signage, the planting of 50 trees along North Broadway (beginning the week of March 27), construction of a sidewalk on the west side of North Broadway, and landscaping. Work is scheduled to be completed in May. General construction on the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center continues.

 

Spring intramurals

Intramural coed power volleyball will be offered Monday and Wednesday, and intramural five-versus-five basketball will be held on Tuesday and Thursday nights. All games will take place between 7 and 10 p.m. All participants must be current students or employees with a valid Skidmore email address. Register online.

Admissions Discovery Tour

The Admissions Office invites campus offices and student groups to participate in the Discovery Tour, an accepted student's day program for the BIPOC student community. Our goal is to highlight campus resources for candidates considering Skidmore, including academics, intercultural life, and student life, as well as the perspectives of current students. Please register by Monday, April 3, to participate in our Resource Roundtable session from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, on the second floor of Murray-Aikins Dining Hall. Summer 2023 employment for students

Students interested in viewing and applying for summer jobs at Skidmore should visit jobs.skidmore.edu and filter by “summer.” In some instances, students may be hired for more than one position. Both jobs must be part time, be paid in the same manner (hourly or salary), and together cannot exceed 40 hours in a work week. Governing in Congress: Talking Bipartisanship in the Midst of Polarization

Former U.S. Reps. William Flores (R-TX) and William Enyart (D-IL) will talk about how Congress functions and take questions from the audience from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, in Filene Auditorium. The pair are visiting Skidmore as part of the Congress to Campus program, which provides college students the opportunity to engage in dialogue with a bipartisan pair of former lawmakers. Skidmore Athletics hosts "Active Allyship" panel

Skidmore Athletics will host a panel centered on allyship and the LGBTQ+ community from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 3, in Zankel Music Center. The event, which will also be livestreamed, will be moderated by Professor of American Studies Beck Krefting and feature panelists Katherine Almquist ’24 (women's tennis), Coach Curt Speerschneider (women’s tennis), Clare Kenny ’15 (women’s volleyball), Associate Professor of Sociology Amon Emeka, Executive Director of the Pride Center of the Capital Region Nathanial Gray, and Emily Czelusniak ’25 (swimming and diving). SGA Equity in Products for Natural Hair Act resolution

The Student Government Association has approved a resolution that allocates $2,050 in funding to start a new program to provide natural hair products to students on campus at no cost for the spring 2023 semester. For more information, contact SGA.

 

Commencement regalia

Seniors should order their caps and gowns through the Skidmore Shop’s regalia website by today, March 22, for pickup on campus beginning April 25. Orders for home delivery must be placed by April 24. A limited number of caps and gowns will be available for purchase at the Skidmore Shop starting April 25.

 

Skidmore Weekly Bulletin submission procedure

Please help reduce bulk emails by posting your announcement in the Bulletin. Submit announcements and events, academic lectures, and faculty-staff achievements by completing the appropriate online form. The deadline for all submissions is noon on Monday. Please email swb@skidmore.edu if you have questions. SWB generally publishes announcements and events for two weeks.

Athletics News

There will be a full weekend of home events for Skidmore teams. On Saturday, the riding team will host the Region 3 Finals at the Van Lennep Riding Center, beginning at 9 a.m. The softball team makes its home debut on the new turf field with a noon doubleheader against Castleton University, and the women’s lacrosse team will host Liberty League rival Union College at noon. Sunday’s home action includes the baseball home opener at noon against Rensselaer and a 1 p.m. women’s tennis match versus Brandeis at the Wilton YMCA.
