President Conner

President Conner welcomes the Skidmore community at the start of a new academic year. He encourages everyone to make the most of the present as we anticipate the wonderful opportunities and possibilities to come. 

Class of 2027

With engaging orientation programs and ceremonial tributes to an already accomplished group of students, Skidmore College is welcoming 738 members of the Class of 2027 for the 2023-24 academic year. 

Skidmore women's soccer team on opening weekend

Skidmore’s volleyball, field hockey, and women’s and men’s soccer teams got the fall athletics campaign off to a strong start and showed promise for exciting seasons ahead.

Announcements

Staff and faculty meetings

The first staff and faculty meetings of the 2023-24 academic year will take place on Friday, Sept. 8, on the second floor of Murray-Aikins Dining Hall and via Zoom. Login details for those participating remotely will be shared by email. The staff meeting will take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Additional information, including the agendas and how to provide input, is available on the HR website. The faculty meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m. 

 

Reminder: Opening Reception

President Marc C. Conner and Barbara Reyes-Conner invite you and your guest to attend an Opening Reception at Scribner House from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8. Stop by to welcome new faculty and staff to Skidmore College. 

 

President’s office hours 

President Conner will hold open office hours from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, and from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to request a 10-minute, in-person appointment. To register, please email presoff@skidmore.edu. Requests will be handled in the order they are received, and additional open office hours will be announced throughout the year. 

 

Campus flu clinics, COVID-19 information 

Skidmore has scheduled flu clinics for Sept. 21 and 22. Students and employees can register for the clinics online. Skidmore continues to take COVID-19 seriously and will host COVID-19 vaccine clinics in the coming weeks once updated vaccines are made available. 

 

2023 McCormack Endowed Visiting Artist-Scholar Residency 

The Sept. 25-29 residency brings former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove and composer Richard Danielpour to campus for the premiere of Danielpour’s “The Unhealed Wound,” a Skidmore-commissioned song cycle based on Dove’s “Playlist for the Apocalypse.” The performance takes place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, in Arthur Zankel Music Center. From 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, in Gannett Auditorium, Dove and Danielpour present “Artists in Conversation,” moderated by faculty members April Bernard and Teisha Duncan. Seating will be first come, first served.  

 

Tuition benefit and Tuition Exchange Program session

Staff members from Admissions, Financial Aid, and Human Resources will lead a workshop addressing admission and financial aid requirements and offering an overview of the Tuition Exchange Program from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28, in Emerson Auditorium. The session should be particularly helpful to Skidmore employees with high school age dependents who plan to apply for Skidmore's internal or external tuition benefit programs, including the Tuition Exchange Program.

CDPHP Cycle! bike-share

‌Anyone with a skidmore.edu email address can register for CDPHP Cycle! To register, download the CDPHP Cycle app to your phone, subscribe with your Skidmore email address, submit promo code "Skidmore," enter a debit/credit card for incidentals, and you're ready to ride. Pedal bikes are free to ride for College community members, and e-bikes are free for the first 30 minutes. Please contact Jen Natyzak with any questions.

‌Compost bins for departments and residences

All residence halls and apartment buildings will receive a blue compost pickup bin during the first week of classes. Register your department for the program by filling out this form. Learn more about Skidmore’s composting program online or by contacting the compost managers.

Fall fitness class registration

Fitness classes for employees and retirees begin the week of Sept. 18. Register online. For more information contact Lacey Largeteau.

  

Fall intramurals

Fall intramural registration opens Wednesday, Sept. 6, and runs through Sept. 21. Leagues start the week of Sept. 25. For more information and to register, visit imleagues.com. You must have a Skidmore email address to register.

Submitting requests for updates to Skidmore webpages

Requests for updates to departmental webpages should be submitted to webteam@skidmore.edu and are handled in the order that they are received. A large volume of requests is currently being processed; please plan accordingly. Departments interested in managing their own web content should contact Skidmore’s web team for training.

Orli, a new Amazon delivery option  

Amazon recently installed contactless lockers on the loading dock at Case College Center, which will be open 24/7 and can be used for personal and business deliveries. When checking out, choose “more delivery options” and click Amazon Locker - Orli. If you have the Amazon app loaded on your phone, your locker door should open on approach. Please see Skidmore’s post office staff for more information. 

 

Skidmore Weekly Bulletin submission procedure 

Please help reduce bulk emails by posting your announcement in Skidmore Weekly Bulletin, which is distributed to all students and employees. Submit announcements and eventsacademic lectures, and faculty-staff achievements by completing the appropriate online form. The deadline for all submissions is noon on Monday. Please email swb@skidmore.edu if you have questions.
