Finding community or creating your own in Skidmore's clubs

How do you find your community at college? Skidmore has more than 100 clubs, where you can make friends and explore your passions. You can even create your own. Here are a few where Skidmore students have found their niche.

Dining Services

Dining Services is again selling homemade bread. Use your Skidmore credentials to order online by Monday, Oct. 16, for a pickup on Friday, Oct. 20.

Announcements

Village Treats for the kids of faculty and staff

Village Treats is an enchanting evening of trick-or-treating for the kids of Skidmore faculty and staff, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 29, at Northwoods and Sussman apartments. An orange pumpkin graphic will be placed on the doors of participating apartments. For more information, contact Michaela Larsson or Residential Life.

Saratoga Book Festival

President Conner, alumna Cleyvis Natera ’99 (“Neruda on the Park”), and English Professor and Salmagundi Editor Bob Boyers will be among this year’s presenters at the Oct. 12-15 Saratoga Book Festival. On Sunday, Oct. 15, a film screening of “The Right to Read” will take place at 1 p.m. in Gannett Auditorium and will be followed by a 3 p.m. discussion between President Conner and local nonprofit and business leader Ed Mitzen.

Skidmore Theater presents “[RE]MAKING”

‌Skidmore Theater's Fall Black Box production, “[RE]MAKING,” a reworking of acclaimed playwright Charles Mee's opensource plays, will run Oct. 20 to 25. The show is directed by Artist-in-Residence Jared Klein. For more information, contact the Skidmore Theater Box Office; purchase tickets here.

Celebration Weekend

‌2023 Career Jam

‌Students are invited to join the Career Development Center at its largest on-campus networking event of the year. Connect with alumni, parents, and employers from a wide variety of industries to discuss potential internships, job opportunities, and graduate school options from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, on the second floor of Murray-Aikins Dining Hall. Ensemble Connect performance and residency

Ensemble Connect — a group of the finest young professional classical musicians based out of Carnegie Hall — returns Oct. 24 to 28, for their biannual residency and performance at Skidmore, now in its 17th year. Their performance at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, in Arthur Zankel Music Center will feature Franz Schubert’s lively “Trout” quintet, Samuel Barber’s “Summer Music,” and Missy Mazzoli’s “Still Life with Avalanche.”

‌Selected Art Faculty Exhibition

The 2023 Selected Art Faculty Exhibition is on view at the Schick Art Gallery through Friday, Oct. 13, featuring prints and mixed media work by Ruben Castillo, sculpture by John Galt, and paintings by Paul Sattler. For more information and art gallery hours, please visit the Schick's website.

Celebration of President Emeritus Philip A. Glotzbach

Join President Marc C. Conner and members of the Skidmore community in Gannett Auditorium, at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, for a panel discussion celebrating the era of Philip A. Glotzbach, Skidmore's seventh President. The panel will be facilitated by Susan Kress, professor of English emerita and former vice president for academic affairs. A reception will follow.

Athletics News

Playoff berths are on the line this weekend as the Thoroughbreds host several key home Liberty League games. The men’s soccer team is home for a weekend doubleheader with RIT Friday at 4 p.m. and Ithaca Saturday at 2 p.m. Field hockey takes on Vassar in a Sunday game at 2 p.m. The volleyball team hosts Bard on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Ramapo at 3 p.m. in a non-league game.
