Dining Services

Thanksgiving bread and pie sale  

‌Dining Services will be selling baked goods for Thanksgiving. Orders must be received by tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 16, and can be picked up from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, or from 9 to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, in the Atrium Café. Order here, or contact Mark Miller with questions.

Faculty-Staff Achievements

Hajar Hussaini, visiting assistant professor of English, published translations of poems in two academic journals. Read more>>

COVID-19 reminders 

Ahead of Thanksgiving break next week, the COVID-19 Logistics Working Group encourages all community members to mask up and test if you are sick or have been exposed to COVID-19, to consider masking in higher-risk situations such as while traveling or in crowded events, and to get an updated COVID-19 vaccine or flu shot if you have not already. Students are encouraged to pick up a box of tests before leaving campus and to test before returning to campus. (Tests are available at the Case Center information desk from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from Campus Safety after hours.) Students who test positive should review these guidelines for self-reporting and isolation. Employees must inform their supervisor or department chair, email Human Resources, and follow CDC guidelines.

This weekend: Skidmania ’73

‌Skidmania, which celebrates the music of 50 years ago, will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 18, in Arthur Zankel Music Center. Proceeds support Skidmore Cares and will be generously matched by Trustee James Zankel ’92. Tickets for the Friday and ‌

‌‌Skidmore Cares

‌Skidmore Cares — our annual campus-wide effort to support individuals and families in need in our community — is now in its 18th year. Visit the Skidmore Cares website to learn about ways you can support local community organizations. Collected items can be dropped off at Scribner House Carriage House from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 29 and 30. ‌

Strategic Action Agenda 2023-24 

‌The Strategic Action Agenda 2023-24 is now posted on the strategic planning website. This document provides context for and review of last year’s agenda and presents five goals for this year’s agenda. These goals emerged from and continue to support Skidmore’s current strategic plan. ‌ ‌

‌Steve Fund partnership to support BIPOC mental health and well-being ‌

‌Skidmore College will be engaging in an 18-month partnership with the Steve Fund's Equity in Mental Health on Campus initiative to improve our campus services, policies, and practices that prioritize the mental health and emotional well-being of students of color. ‌'Arborlogues' botanical recital  

‌Dan Daly and Lee LeBreton present “Arborlogues,” a botanical recital for one tree, this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17 and 18, as part of Schick Gallery’s “Arboreal” exhibition, an interdisciplinary exhibition addressing trees and the environment. ‌Get Rowdy Over Wildlife

‌Please join us for a week of performances as part of the international Climate Change Theater Action Festival, through Friday, Nov. 17. This year’s theme is inspired by the works of Octavia Butler. ‌Indigenization and Decolonization Collaborative open community conversation  ‌

‌The Indigenization and Decolonization Collaborative invites you to an open community conversation from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 16, in Wyckoff Center. Come share ideas for a potential learning community our grassroots group of faculty, staff, and students engaging with our campus' Indigenous and colonizing past, present, and futures. Children’s Book Drive

‌The Reading Minds Scribner Seminar is hosting a campus-wide book drive to collect new and good-as-new used children’s books, Nov. 27 through Dec. 1. All books will be donated to the Saratoga Children's Literacy League, which provides free books to the children of Saratoga County. Books can be dropped off at the Spa during lunch hours or in Tisch 142. Kids Night Out 

‌Kids ages 5 to 13 are invited to enjoy well-supervised recreational activities provided by the great facilities of Skidmore College’s Williamson Sports Center 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17. No pre-registration is necessary. The cost is $10 per child. For more information, email Ron Plourde.

Seeking Thanksgiving meal hosts for international students

Skidmore Lifeworks Thanksgiving basket project   

‌The annual Thanksgiving Basket Project helps local neighbors in need. To make a donation or learn how to help in other ways, visit the LifeWorks website. Consider noting “Skidmore” on your check or on the website. Skidmore initiated this program over 35 years ago and continues to be among its largest institutional supporters. Jingle Bell 5K Run 

‌The Arthritis Foundation will be hosting its Jingle Bell 5k Run on campus at 9 a.m. Sunday, December 3. Visit the Arthritis Foundation website for information and to register. Those interested in volunteering at the event should contact Karlene Kunigiel. ‌

Skidmore Theater: ‘The Courage to Right a Woman’s Wrongs’  

‌This devilishly fun play by one of Spain’s most successful ladies of letters will run Nov. 17-19 and Dec. 1-3. (The 8 p.m. performance on Friday, Dec. 1, will offer open captioning.) Find tickets online, or contact Skidmore Theater Box Office for more information. ‌ ‌

‌The Career Development Center has just launched its 2024 Winter Job Shadowing program and is actively looking for job shadowing hosts: Skidmore alumni, parents, or employers, who graciously open their doors to provide firsthand insight into the daily demands and responsibilities of their respective fields. Toys for Toga toy drive and fundraiser ‌

‌The Skidmore Shop will be participating in this year’s Toys for Toga drive and fundraiser. If you’d like to donate new, unwrapped toys, visit our in-store dropbox by Dec. 9. Donated toys will be distributed to Franklin Community Center (Saratoga Springs), CAPTAIN Youth and Family Services (Clifton Park), and the Mechanicville Area Community Services Center. Skidmore Weekly Bulletin publication schedule, submission procedure

‌Submit announcements and events, faculty-staff achievements, and academic lectures by completing the appropriate online form. The deadline for all submissions is noon on Monday. Please email swb@skidmore.edu if you have questions. Please note, during the week of Thanksgiving, SWB will be published on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

Athletics News

The unbeaten Skidmore College men’s ice hockey team will host No. 10 Norwich University in the annual Pack the Rink game at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 17, at the Saratoga Springs City Rink. The first 150 fans with a canned good donation will receive a T-shirt. There will also be other prizes and between-period competitions. A free bus runs from Case Center at 6:30 p.m. The team completes the weekend home league schedule at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, against New England College. 

‌The Burke Family Fundraiser was a big success with more than $3000 in cash/GoFundMe donations and $2000 in gift cards from the more than 1,000 fans who attended the men’s basketball team’s opening game against New Paltz. Coach Joe Burke, his son Alec '25 and their family recently lost their home in a devastating fire. Their GoFundMe page remains available for donations.
