Skidmore College Partners with Steve Fund to Suport Mental Health and Well-Being of Students of Color

We are thrilled to share with our campus community that Skidmore College has been selected to join the Steve Fund’s Equity in Mental Health on Campus (EMHC) initiative.

The Steve Fund is a national organization dedicated to ensuring that every young person of color is fully supported by programs, services and institutional cultures that value and promote their mental health and well-being.

Skidmore College will be working with the Steve Fund team to improve our campus services, policies, and practices that prioritize the mental health and emotional well-being of students of color. The project will kick off this fall 2023 and will run through March 2025.

The process includes:

  • A campus steering workgroup composed of faculty, staff, and students that meets monthly
  • A needs assessment report with recommendations
  • A plan to generate ideas and develop specific, actionable, and measurable goals
  • The implementation of policies, programs, and practices, developed with the support of Steve Fund mental health experts and coach
  • Evaluation and sustainability plans to ensure continued success in the future

The Equity in Mental Health on Campus initiative was created to address the significant inequities in mental health and the disparities faced by students of color nationwide. As part of the initiative, Skidmore College will assemble a steering workgroup to work alongside the staff of the Steve Fund. The workgroup includes campus leaders, faculty, staff, and students.

If you’re interested in supporting this work, please contact Dr. Angela Banks at ambanks@skidmore.edu.

We look forward to working with the Steve Fund to prioritize the mental health of our students of color and we will keep you informed of our progress.
