Celebrating Juneteenth 

‌Skidmore College will be closed on Thursday, June 19, in recognition of Juneteenth as an official College holiday. Community members are invited to engage in local events — including Juneteenth celebrations at the Frederick Allen Elks Lodge and a community celebration at the Saratoga YMCA, where President Conner will offer remarks.

‌Mostly Modern Festival

‌The Mostly Modern Festival, an international music festival celebrating classical music in all its diversity, returns to Zankel Music Center for its sixth season. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Zankel box office. Skidmore students, faculty, and staff may attend free of charge by showing their Skidmore ID at Zankel Music Center. ‌

‌New York State Summer Writers Institute at Skidmore College

‌For 38 summers, the New York State Summer Writers Institute at Skidmore College has offered students opportunities to learn from a distinguished faculty of award-winning authors in residence. Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

‌Upcoming athletics facilities closures ‌

‌The Williamson Sports Center and McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center will be closed on Thursday, June 19, and Friday, July 4. 

‌Jonsson Tower summer construction

‌Work has begun replacing the north exterior stairs leading from the Tower parking lot with an accessible ramp and will continue through mid-August; use the south stairs. The basement stairs will be temporarily closed for replacement. Access to parking will be from the west-side exterior staircase. More detailed updates will be available on the Facilities web page. ‌ 

Tennis courts hours and construction ‌

‌The outdoor tennis courts at McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center will be closed for the summer due to construction. The indoor courts will be open from 7 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, throughout the summer. Reservations can be made on the Skidmore Athletics Website. ‌ 

‌Free employee fitness classes ‌and Drink 8 to Hydrate Challenge ‌

‌The Live More, Skidmore worksite wellness program is offering free fitness classes to employees during the month of June. ‌Classes include yoga, water aerobics, pilates, kettlebell mastery, spin, and cardio sculpt. Registration for June 23-27 will open on this signup sheet at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 20. Registration is also open for the six-week Drink 8 to Hydrate Challenge, June 23-Aug. 3. For completing the challenge, participants will receive a 32-ounce On-the-Fly Skidmore-branded Nalgene water bottle. 

Skidmore Community Garden work parties ‌

‌Want to assist in growing veggies, fruits, and flowers for your community? The Skidmore Community Garden is now hosting weekly work parties from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. All are welcome — no prior gardening experience needed. Contact Ezri Rubenstein-Miller for more information.

S‌ummer pop-up grill ‌ ‌

‌Dining Services is offering a pop-up grill on Porter Plaza, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The grill menu features burgers, hotdogs, chicken, meatless options, and other specials throughout the summer. ‌ 

‌Science on Tap 

‌This summer’s final Science on Tap lecture, a collaboration between Skidmore’s Environmental Studies and Sciences Program and Sustainable Saratoga, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, June 26, in the Bierhall at Common Roots in South Glens Falls. Michael Cahill from SUNY Adirondack will give a talk titled, "High Science: Growing, Knowing, and Appreciating Cannabis." Contact Kurt Smemo with questions.
