Celebration Weekend starts today

The weekend features a variety of fun, free, family-friendly events on campus and in the Saratoga Springs area. Events include a men's soccer game versus St. Lawrence, the Center for Integrated Sciences groundbreaking ceremony, a keynote address by paleontologist Neil Shubin and the dedication of Skidmore’s new Valentine Boathouse.

Senate debates

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and her Republican challenger Chele Farley will face off in a debate before the November midterm election at the Arthur Zankel Music Center on Oct. 21. The event is sold out, but can be viewed live on Spectrum News.

Campus Notes

Please join President Philip A. Glotzbach, Marie Glotzbach and the Skidmore College Board of Trustees for a special program and groundbreaking for the Center for Integrated Sciences (CIS), Saturday, Oct. 20 at 10:45 a.m. in the Palamountain Hall Gannett Auditorium. The groundbreaking will be simulcast in Davis and Emerson Auditoriums.

Catherine Golden, professor of English, was interviewed by the Pessimists Archive Podcast. A paperback edition of her 2017 book also was published.

 

Kurt A. Smemo, assistant professor of environmental studies and sciences, published an article in the journal Water Research.

 

Joan Ann Swanson and Mary Ellen Towne, faculty members in the Department of Education Studies, published an article in the journal Early Child Development and Care.

The Jacob Perlow Series

Chris Silver of McGill University will lecture on "Jews, Muslims, and Music in the 20th Century Maghrib: a History in Three Records" on Monday, Oct. 22 at 7:30 p.m., Gannett Auditorium, Palamountain Hall. Free and open to the public. A dessert reception will follow.

Art supply sale

The Skidmore Shop's art supply sale will take place Thursday, Oct. 25, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 26, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. For every $50 spent in art supplies, you will receive a $10 discount.

 

Employee Benefits Fair and Open Enrollment
