INSTITUTIONAL PLANNING COMMITTEE I. The Committee met 12 times during the 1998-99 academic year and discussed the following:
II. In the category of institutional assessment, we received reports regarding evaluations of the Office Services and the Facilities functions, as well as a preliminary report on the Porter Presidential Scholarships in Science and Mathematics. IPC met with Jack Ling to discuss the foci of his position and to hear from him what modifications might be needed in our thinking to assure that we achieve our goals. We were alerted to the fact that reviews were taking place in the following areas: Development/Alumni Affairs, Financial Aid, and Security. And, we participated in CFG's committee assessment work for the year. Finally, regarding assessment: we updated the goals matrix for a second time -- at least -- since its first appearance in the IPC report of May 1997, and we received the annual update from our standing subcommittee: the Campus Environment Committee, chaired by Leo Geoffrion. III. Communication IPC undertook a project to place on the Skidmore website the major planning documents of the past decade: the "Report of the Commission on the '90s"; the IPC report of May 1997 and the updated matrix; the College's Mission and Vision Statements; the history of the Vision Statement. Please take a look. With regard to the latter two documents, CEPP has recommended that we arrange for faculty discussion at the beginning of next year to assure that we all have the time properly to attend to them and to come to a shared understanding of the College's identity, ambitions, and plans with our new president. We shall plan to proceed accordingly. Respectfully submitted, Phyllis A. Roth |
