Exams
and Quizzes
There will be two exams and two quizzes
for the course. Exam #2 will be scheduled during finals week. All
exams and quizzes must be taken as scheduled. You must obtain my
prior permission and provide documentation of legitimate medical
or family emergencies in order to qualify for special consideration;
otherwise a missed exam or quiz will result in a "zero"
grade.
Term
Projects
Student teams will develop a term project/presentation on a special
topic in immunobiology. The results of your project must be presented
orally to the class and as a web page. The web page can be completed
as a written report (hard copy + MS Word file) which we together
convert into html, or as a web page linked from the class web site.
If you want to make a web page but don't yet know how, I'll provide
lots of help, and we will have a special "web workshop"
to learn the basics. In any event, working together we can convert
your MS Word file into a web page. We'll discuss topic choices in
class. The oral presentations will be scheduled in one of the times
indicated on the class schedule. More details on this topic will
be provided in class, and on the term project
web page.
Class
Schedule
Read the assigned text material before class; it
will help you understand the material more fully and serve as the
basis for class discussion. Some topics and reading assignments
may change, but the exam dates will stay the same.
Attendance
Attendance is required, and will contribute to the "class participation"
component of your grade. Any student with more than three unexcused
absences should not expect to pass the course. Any quizzes or hand-ins
that you miss due to an unexcused absence will receive a grade of
zero. Class attendance will be determined by a circulated attendance
sheet; it is your responsibility to sign it. An absence may be recorded
for students who come to class late or leave class early. Excused
absences include documentable, legitimate medical or personal reasons.
If you must miss class, please contact me (erubenst@skidmore.edu)
as soon as possible.
Academic
Integrity
In all aspects of this course you are expected to follow the Skidmore
College Academic Honor Code. In brief, that means that you may not
give or receive help while taking exams or quizzes; work that is
"closed book" must be done without consulting notes, books,
or other people; and plagiarism in any form is unacceptable. A fuller
description of academic integrity issues, prepared by Skidmore's
Dean of Studies, can be found at
http://www.skidmore.edu/administration/dean-studies/honor_code.htm
