Skidmore
Master's Program
The Master’s Program
offers students the chance to earn graduate degrees concentrating
in the arts, humanities, natural and social sciences. Working closely
with faculty advisors, students design their own interdisciplinary
programs of study, and pursue them primarily through 1-on-1 tutorials
with Skidmore faculty. These self-determined degrees explore areas
ranging from environmental studies, to arts administration, to organizational
development, to women’s studies, to family counseling. Often,
students’ programs take a unique approach to these areas,
focusing on questions such as the nature of creativity, the role
of women in religious art, or the sociological dimensions of mental
illness. Students begin their studies with a one-week, introductory
seminar on the Skidmore campus and continue their coursework while
living in Saratoga—or while pursuing careers anywhere in the
world. Graduates use their M.A. degrees to enter Ph.D. programs,
professional schools, and those careers to which a graduate degree
provides a prerequisite.
