Solidarity Committee of the Capital District
Albany, NY

Description:
Organization activities include supporting workers on strike, democracy in the workplace, organizing drives, and food & agricultural issues. Duties consist of all aspects of organizing to attain above goals, including research, demographics, outreach, leafleting, & developing meeting structures.

Qualifications: Interest field.

Compensation: Possible stipend.


U.S. Supreme Court
Washington, DC

Description: Judicial Internship Program. Advanced undergraduates and graduating seniors who have interest in law, management, and social sciences have a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the field of judicial administration through work in the Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Chief Justice. The Program strives to offer its participants an experience which transcends that of other opportunities available to undergraduates. Interns work eight-hour days, five days a week. Interns perform some routine office tasks, conduct background research for speeches and review legislation on the federal judicial system.

Qualifications: Ability to think clearly, speak articulately and write cogently; substantial research experience; and some course work on constitutional law or the Supreme Court.

Compensation: Depending on funding, a $1000 scholarship may be available based on the following criteria: 1. Interns must successfully complete the internship, 2. Within one year of completing the internship, students must return to an undergraduate program or enroll in a graduate or professional degree program.


Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation
Boston, MA

Description: The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation is the state's watchdog charged with educating, informing and protecting consumers. The Office staffs a Consumer Hotline, investigates complaints, conducts surveys, publishes brochures, Consumer Alerts & Reports, and monitors the marketplace to promote fair and honest competition. The Office provides paid work-study positions and internships for credit to undergraduate, graduate, and law school students. Work-study students will work with the Office's Consumer Services Unit and will staff the Office hotline, answering consumers' questions about consumer protection laws, such as the Lemon Law, landlord/tenant law, and the Home Improvement Contractor Law; assist in research, investigation, and undercover testing of alleged unfair business practices; research and write legal analysis of case law on consumer issues (legal interns).

Qualifications: A work-study position with Consumer Affairs is dynamic and challenging. People with a solid academic background, strong communication skills, and leadership experience are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be able to interpret and absorb a specific body of law quickly, and be committed to learning throughout their work-study commitment about the varied consumer protection laws.

California Public Utilities Commission
San Francisco, CA

Description: All undergraduate (juniors and seniors) and graduate (masters and doctoral) students with strong interest in the design, implementation and/or monitoring of public policy which is in the best interests (short-run and long-run) of electric, natural gas, telecommunications and water ratepayers (customers) are invited to apply for the 20XX-20XX ORA Track I and Track II Internships. The ORA Track I Internships are designed to provide the ORA Intern with an opportunity to work on a project selected by the ORA Intern from a variety of projects developed and supervised by ORA Staff. The ORA Track II Internships are designed to provide the ORA Intern with an opportunity to work on a project designed by the ORA Intern with guidance and supervision by the ORA Staff.

Qualifications: Varies depending on position. Preferred majors would be engineering, economics, finance, accounting, and public policy.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with semester/quarter units taken and work experience.


Federal Bureau of Investigation FBI
Seattle, WA

Description: FBI Honors Internship Program. Each summer, a special group of outstanding undergraduate and graduate students are selected to participate in the FBI Honors Internship Program in Washington, D.C. The Program offers students an exciting insider's view to FBI operations and provides an opportunity to explore the many career opportunities within the Bureau. At the same time, the Program is designed to enhance the FBI's visibility and recruitment efforts at colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Qualifications: Only individuals possessing strong academic credentials, outstanding character, a high degree of motivation, and the ability to represent the FBI upon returning to campus will be selected. In order to be considered, individuals must meet the following qualifications: Undergraduate students should be enrolled in their junior year at the time they apply to the Program; students must be returning to their campus following the Program; Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above; All candidates must be United States citizens.

Compensation: All expenses for interns traveling to and from Washington DC to participate in this program will be reimbursed by the FBI. Also, undergraduate interns are paid at the GS-6 level, and graduate interns are paid at the GS-7 level on the government pay scale.


Illinois Legislative Staff Internship Program
Springfield, IL

Description: Legislative Staff Internships with Partisan Staffs, Research Internships with the Legislative Research Unit and Science Writing Internships with the Legislative Research Unit in the Illinois General Assembly are available. Duties vary according to the area in which the internship is performed. Positions are full time.

Qualifications:
Vary according to internship, however, all require that applicants complete an undergraduate degree prior to the beginning of fall semester. Applicants for positions with the Legislative Research Unit must have an undergraduate grade point average of a "B" or better.

Compensation: Interns are paid a salary of $1,925 per month for the 10 1/2 months of the internship.
