Citizens' Environmental Coalition
Albany, NY

Description: Research and write reports, guidance manuals and fact sheets. Investigate pollution problems, participate in grassroots environmental actions. Write articles for CEC's quarterly newsletter, draft statewide alerts & proposals. Administrative and clerical work. Full and part-time internships available throughout the year.

Qualifications: Applicants should have very good written and oral communication skills, an interest in pollution problems and dedication to environmental protection.

Compensation: Intern may receive a paid stipend based on grant funding.


American Forests
Washington, DC

Description: AMERICAN FORESTS is the nation's oldest nonprofit citizen conservation organization. Internships are available in the following departments: Advertising/Marketing, Communications, Policy, Global ReLeaf, Publications, Urban Forestry, and in Florida, Marketing & Horticulture. An interns responsibilities and experience will depend on the department with which they work. Possible tasks could include: write press releases and assist with event organization (Communications), desktop publishing work towards production of our magazines (Publications), assist with the planning of policy workshops nation-wide (Policy), research and explore new development options, assist with current marketing efforts (Marketing). Duration: 3-6 months.

Qualifications: American Forests prefers interns to have at least sophomore standing at a college or university. A basic understanding of environmental issues would also be a plus.

Human Rights Watch
New York, NY

Description: This agency has 7 member agencies who monitor the issues of human rights all over the world. Interns collect and organize information, conduct research, draft memos and reports on human rights issues. Languages preferred.

Qualifications: Need a powerful commitment to public service. Fluency in a language other than English is strongly preferred. Experience living or working abroad is also desired. Must have strong research, analytical & writing skills.

Compensation:
$180 per week.


Youth Venture
Arlington, VA

Description: Youth Venture, a national not-fir-profit organization based in Arlington, VA, invests in young people as changemakers by providing the tools and support they need to create and lead ventures that make a difference in the community. We are currently seeking summer interns to help the office expand its reach to youth nationwide. Interns are expected to work independently, with each other and with the staff to accomplish various projects. Core responsibilities will fall under the following divisions: Communications, Website Development and Maintenance, Research, Outreach, Venture Support Services. Two positions available.

Qualifications: Ability to work under a deadline, ability to handle multiple tasks at once and the applicant should enjoy using creativity and ingenuity to overcome challenges. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and experience doing Internet research.


Women's International League for Peace and Freedom
Philadelphia, PA

Description: The organization was established in 1915 in The Hague when more than 1200 women from belligerent and neutral countries met to protest the war and to work for conditions in which a permanent peace could be considered. Internships offered in disarmament, development, and human rights. A wide variety of internships are available in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York and Geneva, Switzerland.

Qualifications: The internships are reserved for women in recognition of the fact that women remain largely excluded from positions concerned with questions of foreign policy and international relations. Priority is given to women between the ages of 21 and 30. Fluency in oral and written English is essential.

Compensation: A small stipend to cover basic living expenses is usually available for US internships.
