• Networking has been statistically proven to be the most effective job search approach for Liberal Arts graduates.
  
  
• Contacting everyone you know and asking for advice, information and job leads is critical to job search success.
  
  
• Reach out to family contacts, faculty, former employers and college/prep school alumni.
  
  
• Visit the online Skidmore Career Network for lists of alumni/parent volunteers in fields and geographic areas of interest.
  
  
• Join a professional association in a field of interest as a student member. Network with seasoned members. Access association job listings. Visit the Gateway to Associations, or use the Encyclopedia of Associations (found at the Lucy Scribner Library reference desk), and speak with alumni in the field to identify groups.

Locate The Listings

• Log into the Job Central page to view Skidmore job and recruiting leads.

• Our Entry Level Jobs links will connect you to other useful sites for college seniors like Hot Jobs and Monster.

• The Jobs By Field and Spotlight on Careers sections of our site help you to locate job listing sites in career fields or industries of interest.

• Try our Jobs by Region and our Classified Ads links to get listings in your dream location. Newspaper Links organizes newspapers by state so that you can access the job classifieds.

• Skidmore provides access to several online jobs newsletters like Current Jobs (Email carserv@skidmore.edu for a password)
  
• Other print newsletters are available in the Career Services Office.

Go to the Source

• Identify employers in industries and find out if they are hiring any college graduates for entry-level jobs.
  
  
• Use Career Search to identify employers in locations and industries of interest (available on campus only). Visit their webpages to view jobs or contact their HR departments and inquire about openings.
  
  
• Yellow page sites like Yahoo Yellow Pages are another effective way to identify target employers in a specific location.
