BJJ is a grappling art that is similar to wrestling, only instead of trying to pin your opponent's shoulders to the ground, you are trying to isolate a joint for a submission hold. It was designed to level the playing field between larger aggressors and smaller "victims." Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu largely revolves around the principles of leverage.
The self defense we'll be practicing is Israeli based street scenario self defense aimed at practical self protection. We will be covering a range of attack based scenarios as well as striking and understanding of human weak points.
Joint locks are ways of manipulating the body by controlling the mobility of a joint. We will look at joint locks from two different perspectives: technically how to apply joint locks well, and how can we pull off joint locks in realistic altercations.
The art of stick-fighting uses one or two 28" rattan sticks to strike the opponent and disarm their weapons. The origin of this art comes from the Phillipines, where the study of sticks is often paired with knife and empty-hand fighting interchangeably.
This system looks at natural body reactions in conflict and converts this response to an offensive action against the attacker. We will incorporate scenario training and a realistic look at violence.
