Backpacking

Backpacking through the SOC takes a variety of forms. We lead day hikes, winter snowshoeing hikes, extended overnight trips, and winter mountaineering trips. In addition to leading multiple trips each semester, the SOC is able to lend equipment to students for their own personal trips. Tents, sleeping bags, stoves and cookware, backpacks, crampons, and snowshoes are all available from the Outing Club house, located in Oak C. The most common location for backpackers are the Adirondack Mountains, although New Hampshire's White Mountains offer a good alternative. Common trips include both day hikes and overnight hikes to the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks. In addition to the High Peaks the SOC leads multiple trips to the easier and more local southern Adirondacks and Lake George region.
