Making It Work

The Skidmore Polo Club is coached and run by students and local volunteers. With such an expensive sport as polo, we rely on donations, fundraisers, and sponsorships to make it work. Our horses and the majority of our tack have been donated over the years. We are incredibly grateful for the support we receive.

We invite you to become a friend of Skidmore Polo by making a donation or attending our games. Friends and family are welcome at any of our games, and it’s a great outing for kids.

If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to the Club, please contact Dan Haro (dharo@skidmore.edu ) and we will gladly help with the arrangements. Any donation, large or small is more than welcome. We are currently, and always, in need of polo saddles, arena balls, brushes, mallets, foot mallets, mallet grips, tack, blankets, helmets, riding equipment, and polo wraps. Money donations are, of course, always more than welcome. In addition, we are always interested in acquring new horses (a tax deductible donation) for the team .

Sponsorship

Horses and polo have an immense public appeal. The combination of a breathtakingly fast, dangerous spot and bold athletic horses can’t miss. We invite you to participate in this unique marketing experience by joining us as a sponsor in the most beautiful and exciting team sport! Please contact Polo Public Relations for more information.Dan Haro

Some of our recent Alumni Profiles:

meg

Megan Kiessling
Major: Math
Class: 2009
Home: NJ
Fav Pony: Missy
Comments: Megan is excited for the 08'-09' season, and being PR. She started playing polo her freshman year, and it is certainly the change of pace she wanted after more than a decade of boring hunter/jumper riding.

erica

Erica Kratz
Major: History, Classics
Class: 2009
Home: Baltimore, MD
Fav Pony: BJ
Comments:

Erica Kratz has been riding horses for about twelve years and playing polo for seven. She started playing polo at Garrison Forest School and has been in love with the sport ever since. She will be co-president of the club and captain of the women's team this year and can't wait to help administrate the club.

Kathleen McConkey
Major: Environmental Science / Geology
Class: 2009
Home: Jersey
Fav Pony: Crystal & Romper
Comments:

Kathleen has been riding and working with horses since she was 7 years old, but just started playing polo her freshman year at Skidmore and got hooked!  She has been the club treasurer for the past 3 years, and is working hard.  In terms of her favorite ponies, she says “Crystal (since retired) is my sensei, and Romper is my baby.”
