Raices Charter
Article I
The name of this organization shall be Raices
Article II
The goal of Raices will be primarily to act as a resource for students of Hispanic and/or Latino backgrounds and secondarily to act as an agent to increase campus awareness on issues related to Hispanic and/or Latino culture, history, philosophies, peoples and other facets.
Article III
Events sponsored and/or organized by Raices will primarily concern, but not be limited to, aspects of Hispanic and Latino clture for their essence or for their relation to other topics which Raices chooses to pursue.
Article IV
Raices will have in its iternary of events the following fixed events/activities:
- Hispanic Heritage Month, to be celebrated during the month of November
- To lobby for the implementation of academic programs and cources which focus on the study of Hispanic andor Latino culture, histories and people.
- To sponsor/ organize lectures, discussions, social gatherings, trips and/or exhibits
Article V
Raices will be open to all members of the Skidmore community
Article VI
Section a.
Raices will have the officers whose duties are as follows:
President:
To call, and run all club and officers' meetings
To coordinate all club events and assign portions of the planning and implementation of said events to other officers
To act as a liaison between the club and the administrative and faculty branches of Skidmore
To act as a liaison to the SGA V.P for CLubs and Organizations
To attend all Presidents Council meetings
TO maintain ties with outside agencies and determine the nature of such ties with Raices
To schedule club events
To assist other club officers
To attend all Raices officers' and club meetings
Vice President:
To assist the president
To preside over club affairs and as a liaison to SGA V.P. for Clubs and Organizations when the president is unable
To assume the role of president in the interim period after the resignation or impeachment of a president
To coordinate club elections
To schedule club events with appropriate offices (i.e., Calendar, Media Servies, Audio Visuals, Physical Plant)
To assist other club officers
To attend all Raices officers' and club meetings
Treasurer:
To assist the president in preparing a club budget according to the funds appropriated by SGA
To keep and update an accurate record of club finances
To provide the President with a report on club finances after major events
To determine/estimate cost of proposed events
To deposit funds generated by club events
To act as a liaison to the SGA V.P for Financial Affairs
To assist other club officers
To attend all Raices officers' and club meetings
Secretary:
To record, prepare and disseminate the minutes from officers and club meetings to officers
To compile and update Raices lists (i.e., member list, contacts list, mailing lists)
To complete all photocopying (excluding PR)
To complete all club mailings
To assist other club officers
To attend all Raices officers' and club meetings
Public Relations:
To handle ALL aspects of Raices public relations for the club and specific club events (i.e., making and posting of banners, flyers, invitations, posting announcements on e-mail)
To assist other club members
To attend all Raices officers' and club meetings
Section b.
Club officer positions will be effective from the time of election during the fall semester including the summer and until the next election in the following fall semester. An officer can be impeached by a majority vote of the remainder of the officers. An officer may automatically qualify for impeachment if they fail in their duties as outlined by this charter
Article VII
Self-nominations will be during the last Raices meeting in November. Voting will take place the following meeting. All active Raices members qulaify to vote. Elections will be by secret ballot. The officer positions to be filled are; President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and four Public Relations officers. Present officers may opt to include positions for ad hoc officers. The number of said officers will be determined by each set of incumbent officers. In the event of a tie, there will be a re-election for that position. All active Raices members are eligible for nomination.
By-laws:
1. If an activity or proposal does not fall under the jurisdiction of the club charter, the president and vice-president will make the decision guided by the policies, and goals of Raices and member input.
2. Current officers shall prepare a list of resources and contact persons for new officers.
3. Current officers will assist new officers during the first month of their term in office.
4. If officers choose to, Raices will have a faculty advisor who will be chosen by the club officers
5. The incumbent president shall distribute copies of the club charter to new officers.
