~VDAY Campaign

S.A.F.E.R. is a grassroots organization that was founded last spring by Skidmore students, Sara Randazo '02 and Chanel Luck '03. The organization has gained instantaneous support among the Skidmore student body. We are the first college affiliate chapter of S.A.F.E.R. New York, a national campaign to end sexual assault. Recently, S.A.F.E.R. president, Chanel Luck, wrote a resolution that called for the creation of a sexual assault student resources center staffed with a trained victim advocate counselor. The resolution was unanimously passed with a booming applause and standing ovation at Skidmore's Senate. Since then, S.A.F.E.R. members have been working with administrators and students to design a Center for Safer Sexual Relations. The grand opening was on March 11th 2003!

Mission:

This organization is concerned with the general health, well being, safety, and education of Skidmore students. Our primary goal is to provide social services that will work to assure potential victims and survivors of sexual assault are given the best resources and support possible. Our main purpose is to provide the Skidmore community with the support, resources and education necessary to deal with sexual assault and harassment. S.A.F.E.R. Skidmore will annually organize and recruit both students and staff to be trained as peer counselors and victim advocates. S.A.F.E.R. Skidmore will support survivor's decision making and offer non-judgmental, knowledgeable advice from trained professionals, and assure that sexual assault victims are always treated with dignity and compassion. Additionally, S.A.F.E.R. Skidmore will annually review and assess the Skidmore Sexual Assault Policy in conjunction with the Skidmore Security Advisory Committee. Finally, S.A.F.E.R. Skidmore will continually work to network with the Health Educator, the Saratoga Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center, the Skidmore Counseling Center to create a safe and comfortable place in which Skidmore Students can discuss, assess, and heal from the trauma of sexual assault.
