Porter-Wachenheim Scholarship celebrates a quarter century transforming student lives

The Porter-Wachenheim Scholarship was created in 1998, one of two prestigious merit scholarship programs offered by the College. Now, a quarter century later, recipients past and present reflect on the ways that the scholarship continues to influence their lives.

Campus COVID-19, flu vaccine clinics

Health Services is partnering with Adirondack Health and Wellness to offer updated COVID-19 vaccines and flu shots from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, and Friday, Nov. 10, in Falstaff's. ‌You can sign up to receive an updated COVID-19 vaccine, your flu shot, or both at the clinics. These vaccines are highly recommended to keep you and others around you safe and healthy this cold and flu season. Mandatory HR compliance training

All Skidmore employees (including student workers) are required to complete HR Sexual Harassment and Workplace Discrimination Training by Nov. 10. Please review the College’s Equal Employment Opportunity, Diversity, and Anti-Harassment Policies and Procedures for staff and faculty; then complete the training courses assigned to you on the Learn More Skidmore platform, which can be accessed via Okta or training.skidmore.edu.

Celebration Weekend

Skidmore’s annual event for the friends and families of Skidmore students will take place Oct. 20 to 22. For more information or for a schedule of events, visit the Celebration Weekend website. As part of Celebration Weekend’s programming, Perimeter Road will be closed to vehicle traffic between Zankel Music Center and Williamson Sports Center from 8:55 to 9:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, to accommodate a fireworks display over Haupt Pond. 2023 Career Jam

‌Students are invited to join the Career Development Center at its largest on-campus networking event of the year. Connect with alumni, parents, and employers from a wide variety of industries to discuss potential internships, job opportunities, and graduate school options from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, on the second floor of Murray-Aikins Dining Hall. Skidmore Celebration 5K

All are invited to participate in Skidmore’s Celebration 5k Sunday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. Registration is free with an optional donation of $10 to LifeWorks Community Action, providing Thanksgiving dinners to needy families. Medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in six different categories, and the first 80 people to enter will also receive a free T-shirt. StartUp Skidmore

‌StartUp Skidmore will be held this Sunday, Oct. 22, in the Billie Tisch Center for Integrated Sciences. All students are welcome to participate in this one-day program, where they will work with alumni mentors to develop and pitch a business idea. Celebration of President Emeritus Philip A. Glotzbach

Join President Marc C. Conner and members of the Skidmore community in Gannett Auditorium, at 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 18, for a panel discussion celebrating the tenure of Philip A. Glotzbach, Skidmore's seventh President. The panel will be facilitated by Susan Kress, professor of English emerita and former vice president for academic affairs. A reception will follow.

Skidmore Theater presents “[RE]MAKING”

‌Skidmore Theater's Fall Black Box production, “[RE]MAKING,” a reworking of acclaimed playwright Charles Mee's opensource plays, will run Oct. 20 to 25. The show is directed by Artist-in-Residence Jared Klein. For more information, contact the Skidmore Theater Box Office; purchase tickets here.

SGA Green Grant Workshop today

The SGA Green Grant is a $10,000 competitive grant that supports students pursuing sustainable initiatives on campus. Applications are due Nov. 17. A Green Grant Application Workshop will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the Spa. Contact Apple Alvarez with questions.

“The Unhealed Wound” recording to be broadcast

The world premiere of “The Unhealed Wound” will be featured at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Oct. 18, on “AHA! A House for Arts,” WMHT’s weekly showcase of local arts and culture. For those who missed the Sept. 29 show, WMHT-FM 88.7 / 89.1 will broadcast the concert recording in part at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, on “No Ticket Required” and in full on “WMHT Live” in November.

Ensemble Connect performance and residency

Ensemble Connect returns Oct. 24-28, for their biannual residency and performance at Skidmore, now in its 17th year. Their performance, featuring Franz Schubert’s lively “Trout” quintet, Samuel Barber’s “Summer Music,” and Missy Mazzoli’s “Still Life with Avalanche,” will take place on Friday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Arthur Zankel Music Center.

‌Nuveen Barwari at the Schick

‌Multimedia artist Nuveen Barwari’s artwork will be on display in Schick Art Gallery, Oct. 20-26, as part of a one-week pop-up exhibition through the Skidmore Art Department’s Workspace Residency Program, currently in its first year. An opening reception will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, in Schick Art Gallery. Visit the Schick Art Gallery website to learn more.

‌Kids Night Out

Kids ages 5 to 13 are invited to come enjoy well-supervised recreational activities provided by the great facilities of Skidmore College’s Williamson Sports Center 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27. No pre-registration is necessary. Cost is $10 per child. For more information, email Ron Plourde.

Skidmore Lifeworks Thanksgiving Basket Project

The annual Thanksgiving Basket Project helps local neighbors in need. To make a donation or learn how to help in other ways, visit the LifeWorks website. Village Treats for children of faculty and staff

Village Treats is an enchanting evening of trick-or-treating for the kids of Skidmore faculty and staff, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 29, at Northwoods and Sussman apartments. Athletics News

The winter season officially begins this weekend with a pair of home swimming and diving meets. The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will host St. Lawrence University at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, and SUNY Potsdam at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. The field hockey team plays William Smith College at home at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and the women’s soccer team hosts St. Lawrence at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Skidmore Rowing will conclude its fall season next Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Head of the Fish on Fish Creek. There will be a shuttle from campus to the water and free T-shirts will be provided to the first 200 spectators.
