Fitness miracles?
There arent any, says Paul Arciero, a Skidmore exercise scientist. But hes using a grant to study about sixty Skidmore employees as they follow the diet and exercise regimes of the American Heart Association, the Body for Life plan, or their regular lifestyle. Arciero is tracking the subjects body fat, muscle mass, cholesterol, and other fitness markers. Results in the next Scope.
1950s retrospective
The Tumultuous Fifties, an exhibit of New York Times archives photographs, is making a splash at the Tang Museum. Along with some 200 photos, the exhibit includes Jack Kerouacs original manuscript for his legendary beat novel On the Road, a vintage motorcycle, old toys, and other memorabilia. Theres also a film series, a panel on labor unions and communism, and other special events.

Music milestones
Skidmores orchestra, and Filene Foundation support for music at Skidmore, celebrated twentieth birthdays this fall. Orchestra conductor Anthony Holland composed an organ concerto for the anniversary concert, which also featured one of the first Filene Scholars, from the Class of 82, and current Filene winners.
